StuckInCustoms > Bridges in Zurich I love these old cities that are centered around a river with dozens of little bridges that cross to and fro. It vexes me why Austin (or hundreds of other cities) have not centered the whole city around the river. Maybe it has something to do with flooding or something... I'm not totally sure. But whenever cities try to start a big development around the river later in the city's life, it seems a little bit forced. StuckInCustoms > Little Elves, Little Waterfall Going into one of the valleys by Isafjordur takes you to many little homes near waterfalls. I thought this one was quite lovely. And if you look to the left there, you'll see the tiny homes they also built for the elves. I was editing this photo at dinner one evening in Isafjordur. One of the waitresses saw this house, recognized it, and said, "Oh that's jklasdj(jkasdj^dhsaj". StuckInCustoms > Work in Tokyo I set up here for an HDR multi-exposure shot, but then people started running into the office. I thought their running was so nice that I made sure to change my settings around a bit to capture the rush of it all. I didn't intend to spend so much time around this office building, but I ended up there for about an hour. StuckInCustoms > Evening Light on the Remarkables Misty and cloudy on the mountains... from this far away, it looks like a mist is blowing across the tops of the mountains. It makes it all appear more dramatic than perhaps it really is while you are there. But I guess there is this idea of relative drama. If you are actually there on the mountain, it's probably quite mild and pretty. StuckInCustoms > Fishing Hut Can I post two photos from Iceland in a row? I like to jump around from time to time.. but I guess this is a curveball or something.One strange little thing about Iceland to me is the grass. It is the spongiest stuff in the world. Every step has your feet sink down and bounce up several more inches than expected. It feels a little like one of those giant blow-up-houses like the moonwalk when I was a kid.Also, my shoes are always damp here. There seems to be a dew or moisture at the surface all the time, and it just coats everything. StuckInCustoms > The Louvre in Heavy Clouds People are always around this thing! If you've been there, then you know what I mean... getting a clean shot is almost impossible, unless you visit just after sunrise. In this case, I don't photoshop out the people, but I minimize them... so the photo isn't really about the people, it's about the Louvre. StuckInCustoms > Exploring Nimes After sitting down for thirty minutes waiting on the right light (see my previous Nimes photo by clicking the category above the comments), I walked around the left side of the structure. I liked all the cafes and the road and it all seemed balanced... so I set up for a wide-angle shot. It's one of those cities that when you're doing one thing -- you're pretty sure that you are missing something else! And it's that same way with this fleeting sunset... the light was great almost everywhere... and I did run around quite a bit to see how many compositions I could squeeze into the fleeting time. StuckInCustoms > An Awesome Spot for a Wine Bar I was over taking photos of that monstrous church over there before walking home. Luckily (I don’t always do this), I looked over my shoulder as I was walking down this little road with the wine bar. It seemed like kind of a cool scene, so I set up to take photos.Naturally, people always come over and ask what I am doing. It is very confusing to many people that someone would actually like to take a photo of all this. Sometimes I feel like photography is getting very mainstream and everyone is doing it, but then again, I see very few people out doing stuff like this. StuckInCustoms > Boy and Grandfather at Tiananmen Square I was walking through Tiananmen on a white-out cloud day taking photos of people. I had on my earphones and was kind of drifting in and among the crowd. It's a bit like being in a movie when you do this... anyway, I'm sure you've heard me mention it before, so I won't go into details. It's often a very nice way to make things timeless... to separate people and objects from their place and time. These two were on the ground wrestling and having fun. StuckInCustoms > Soft Zurich at Night These slow-moving huge rivers make for some very nice reflections. With HDR there is a problem of "ghosting" which is when the various frames show different things. I usually leave the water alone when it gets ghosted because it has sort of an impressionistic feel to it, I think. StuckInCustoms > The Long and Twisty Road I lament I can't remember exactly where this is in Iceland. I think it was up by lake Myavatn, but I'm not totally sure. That word Myavatn is related to little mosquitoes. I wondered why it had that name until about 5 AM one day. There were millions... and I mean millions of mosquitoes that came out of nowhere! It was one of those weather-things were the temperature is just perfect and they get up and go crazy for a few hours before settling down again. I don't think many people leave Hong Kong to come visit Lamma Island, but it is a nice jaunt. There is a nice hiking path around the island and it ends at this little harbor. There's lots of food and the reflections around sunset are a treat.
