It was a cool and calm afternoon in the ancient and impossible town of Feng Huang. It's an old town, wreathed in many legends.

On the old river, you can occasionally see a boat passing here and there. The boatmen come in all shapes and sizes, but many wear the same hat and style. It is absolutely like a warp of time...

StuckInCustoms > The Mysterious Rock of Wonder The day in Death Valley was about 115 F (46 C). It wasn’t a dry heat either… there has been a lot of humidity here and there is flash lightning in the day and night. This location here took a lot of time, effort, and 4×4 to find. I took five gallons of water, a map, and some warnings from the place that rented the jeep that this area was inaccessible because of recent road wash-outs from rivers. Well, they were right! So getting the 4×4 over and through the washed out rivers took many more hours than expected. I only suffered one minor injury when my head slammed into the rollbar during a clumsy maneuver. But after I finally found this place I’ve always wanted to visit, it was late afternoon with plenty of time to hike around before night fell.I look forward to your theories (from the boring to the surreal) of what makes these rocks move across the playa on their own!- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the entire post over at the Stuck in Customs blog.

I hope it gives you some new tricks!It was just past 10 PM on the wet streets of Paris as I was getting lost on purpose around the streets near the Church of the Sacred Heart. I bobbed and weaved through various little alleys, streets, and tiny bakeries (where I would just have to stop for a moment), before finding my way to this little faire. StuckInCustoms > A Morning at the Secret Lake This was shot in the Andes of Southern Argentina just near the border of Chile.I spent several hours of hiking in the dark just so I could get to this spot at sunrise. All the darkness in the lower half is the shadow of the mountain behind me as the morning sun rose above it. I was so thirsty from the hike, and had not brought any water with me. StuckInCustoms > The Roman Gladiators of Gaul
Nimes has some very well preserved Roman ruins. There is a huge park area that has stone walkways over ancient Roman waterways and this colosseum structure in the middle of town.

One of the coolest things about this colosseum is that it is still used on a regular basis! When we were there, they were having a bullfight inside the arena. I have some pictures of the aftermath, including trails of blood in the sand... It's fairly graphic, but you'll have something new to see in coming weeks when I get around to processing those!

StuckInCustoms > Big Sur in the Morning 5:30 AM. Alarm goes off. It's always painful. People that say they are "morning people" -- I think they are lying. But, when in a beautiful place, I always force myself, military style, to pop out of bed. There are hikes to be made and photos to take!I stayed at the Ragged Point Inn. My room had a little fireplace and everything (which made it even harder to get out of bed!). After I got downstairs, I started a little hike to get a good vantage of the coast and the sunrise. Of course, there was a fence blocking the best bit, so I jumped over it like Carl Lewis (a much older, whiter, and less jumpy Carl Lewis), and edged along the rocky coast to get a good spot. I forgot to put on my hiking shoes and mistakenly donned my Cole-Haans while in the dark. Big mistake. Those don't make for good hiking shoes, especially after five minutes of getting soaked in morning dew from the foliage I was ripping my way through.But, I had on my earphones and was blasting away music... all was good... the sun came up, the clouds were perfect, and I took this photo.- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.

StuckInCustoms > Inside The Egg This is sort of the opposite of rice-farming in China.This building, lovingly called "The Egg" by locals, is the National Centre for the Performing Arts. It's a gigantic and wonderful opera house that you have to see to believe.Thanks to my contacts there, I had full access to go anywhere and shoot everything. There was a big entourage with me this day. I had my assistant (The great Jacky Woo) and translator. Also following me was a reporter from Reuters, someone from the "People's Daily", which is their local paper. There was as a delightful gentleman from the Office of Official Communication or something like this. I forget all the names... but he was a really cool guy. I never know if I am supposed to say people's names or not...This place was designed by French architect Paul Andreu. It's one of a variety of internationally-designed structures in Beijing. Being a lover of wild architecture, I'm glad China has brought in so many different creative forces to work on these things... It's always a joy to capture them the in a way that would make the architect proud.You can probably get a sense of the sheer size of this thing by looking off into the distance on the right. It's big enough inside to have it's own weather system! StuckInCustoms > Horses Aloof Speaking of the HDR Workshop, I believe I edited this photo during the London Workshop. There is a portion of time when I select a RAW photo to convert into an HDR image, and this was the one I chose. I had never processed it before, and I really like doing these live in front of people. I talk out loud so that people can hear my thought processes. Inevitably, there are problems, but this is what I like about this format. I know that photography and post-processing is basically just navigating around one problem to the next. Maybe people think I don't have problems when I work on these... but I do!
