StuckInCustoms > A Simple Wave I don’t know what to think of this photo. I took it with the NEX-7 and did not process it at all. I find it a little bit interesting, but I am not sure why. I’ve stared at it for longer than I care to admit, trying to figure it out.- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
StuckInCustoms > Rounding the Bend to Glenorchy Each time I go around the bend from Queenstown to Glenorchy, I see something spectacular. I know there are a few people that live in Glenorchy and work in Queenstown, so that means they get to make this drive every day. I wonder if any of them like to take photos… if so, the commute must take an extra thirty minutes!- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
StuckInCustoms > A Moving Sunset When the sun started going down in Milford Sound, I figured I was going to start using up a lot of memory cards. I’m still using those RAW Steel cards that are 16GB each. The D800 has been filling up my cards pretty quickly, so I’ve been thinking about upgrading to 32GB. But I already have a load of 16GB and swapping isn’t that much of a pain… maybe I should just wait until I need the 64GB some day… if ever.- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
StuckInCustoms > An Old Dock in the Lake A bit further down the road to Glenorchy is an old dock that has fallen into the lake over the years. You can pull off the road just about anywhere and take a very short little walk to see a bunch of things you can’t see otherwise. I sometimes force myself to pull over and just go for little jaunt off in one direction or another. I’m pretty good at visualizing what it might be like from the road, but there’s often hidden information back there…- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
StuckInCustoms > Path to the Waterfall This waterfall at Milford is one of those amazing things that churns away all day. Waterfalls that generate a ton of water constantly impress me. It’s hard to get my head around all the water that is in movement all the time, and it’s even more impressive that so much fresh water can be generated without end…- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
StuckInCustoms > A Reflective Morning in Milford Sound After sleeping in my sleeping bag all night, a 6 AM wake up time was a little bit rough. The rough part was the cold that quickly cut through to my bones when I got out. Usually I get dressed inside the tent, but, being tentless, I had no other options. I guess I could have gotten dressed inside the sleeping bag, but that would have been a little bit strange and difficult. Plus, from the outside, I would have looked like I was going through some metamorphosis. - Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
StuckInCustoms > In the Park in San Francisco Our PhotoWalk in San Francisco ended in this spot. At first, I thought the photowalk would just take a few hours, but I think it ended up taking four or five! That’s okay, we had a good time and only got kicked out of one place… we ended up here in this fantastic park… the sun was shining and it was perfect to round things off. - Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
StuckInCustoms > The Taj Mahal in Tokyo I was taking some architecture photos in downtown Tokyo when this advertising-truck went by. I thought it was so strange/funny to have this scene rolling through the city.It would be kind of awesome to find the opposite situation, but I think it is quite doubtful! - Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
StuckInCustoms > Eat at Facebook Last week I spent the day at Facebook and got a private photo-tour of the campus. They just moved to their new HQ, so it was interesting to see how everything was spread out. I was first escorted by a private security guy. He was ex-Marine and kind of a bad-ass. I asked if there were a lot of ex-Marines now hired at Facebook and he said there were quite a few… I figured they were the ones that were most badass.I took a ton of photos, and I don’t know why I am sharing this one first, but here it is anyway. There are many cafeterias all over the campus, and I thought that this one was kinda cool… - Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
StuckInCustoms > The Painted Mountains of Death Valley I woke up on the final morning to go find this special area of Death Valley. I tried to get to things as early as possible before the heat came along. The middle of August is about the worst time to be in Death Valley, but it did do an excellent job of getting rid of the crowds for me!- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
StuckInCustoms > Fast Action in New York City Speaking of PhotoWalks, I took this photo right after the photowalk in New York City a few weeks ago! I emerged from Grand Central Station and was about to walk across the street when I saw this scene. That guy was still as a statue, checking his phone while the world went on around him. - Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
StuckInCustoms > A Beach for your Thoughts Another night on Virgin Gorda… another perfect beach and sunset…Since it was so perfect every night I was there, I simply could not go without taking a sunset/beach photo. I simply could not deny myself! And then every night I would think to myself, “Well I’m glad I got that because tomorrow night there will be bad light and no clouds.” But I was always wrong. Every single night had a crazy light/cloud situation!- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
StuckInCustoms > The Polar Opposite Here is another photo from this mysterious part of Death Valley, where the rocks appear to move on their own accord. If you’d like to see the other photo I took of this place at midnight under the moon, just click on the “Death Valley” category under this post.In the distance there, you can see that tremendous, heavy black rock. It remains in the middle of the lakebed in that pronounced manner, like a giant iron ship that is using ancient magnets to direct rocks around the lakebed.- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
StuckInCustoms > An Endless Desert This was my first trip to a proper desert. It’s the kind of desert that I imagined after watching Lawrence of Arabia countless times (it’s one of my favorite movies). Getting up and down these dunes in the middle of a hot summer day is enough to make you collapse. I think I lost one liter of water per dune. After a while, I started to find it a little easier to walk around once I could better predict the hard parts and soft parts of the sand. But, by then, I had already made all my mistakes and my shoes were completely full of sand. Trudging around with 15 lb feet makes the effort across the dunes extra-special.- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
StuckInCustoms > Inside the San Francisco Hyatt Here is one from our San Francisco PhotoWalk when we made a surprise move and ducked into the Hyatt hotel. As you can imagine, I was not too excited about leaving the vibrant city to go into a hotel, but the people I was with assured me it was really cool inside. And it is! I was pleasantly surprised at the art and architecture on the inside… it was very complex and busy, but it proved to be a fun and challenging situation for composition.- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
