StuckInCustoms > Her Evening Elegance A Texas sunset settled on the farm as we patiently waited for the sky to repaint itself every few minutes. It was a very relaxing hour, watching the sun slowly descend through the clouds, interrupted on occasion by a stressful swapping of lenses. I hate to get dust in the chamber, so the changing of lenses is always a high-anxiety event! But the anxiety faded away pretty quick as we started watching the sunset again. My friend Leslie had invited me out to her parent's farm near Brady. She's an actress, a model, a photographer, and a bunch of other creative things... so I had told her I would spend equal amounts of time shooting the farm, her animals, and her. It's the old 33/33/33 rule of farm-shooting. Anyway, I am sure some of you would rather see photos of her... and still others of her animals... but I can't make everyone happy at once, so you'll just have to wait a few weeks for me to sprinkle those in! Until then, I hope you enjoy the sunset.- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
StuckInCustoms > A New Photo of Rockefeller center So, a few days ago I received a letter from the Smithsonian saying that I have another one in the running for the 6th Annual Photo Contest! Cool! Two years ago, I had 2 winners in the 4th Annual Photo Contest , and one of those ended up hanging in the Smithsonian castle in DC. I know a few of you out there got to see it on road trips – maybe we can make another pilgrimage this year!. I didn’t win anything last year in the 5th annual contest… It was a bad year for me, what can I say?- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
StuckInCustoms > The Dirt Road to the Nuclear Blast Site I felt lucky to have a wild sunset in Yellowstone! I’ve probably been to Yellowstone 5 or 6 times, and you never know what you’ll get! This night was perfect… I had woken up early, so I was tired by mid-afternoon.. I took a catnap in my car and woke up to see the sun was going down in less than an hour! So, I looked at my map and figured out some good spots to go. While walking down this little dirt road, I thought the sky was too perfect to ignore, so I set up for a quick shot!- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
StuckInCustoms > Another Sunday in Iceland This is a really nice little church by a graveyard in the south of Iceland. It was pretty much out in the middle of nowhere, as you can tell. The gate with the cross on the top leads to a tiny and lonely graveyard.- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
StuckInCustoms > Farewell Holland If you want to see how I made this (and how you can too!), visit my HDR Tutorial. I hope it gives you some new tricks! This was taken my final evening in Holland. I found a remote pastoral area with several olde world windmills. I was the only one around... I got fairly cold waiting for sunset, but I think it was worth it.I have a lot more pictures from around the Netherlands still unprocessed, but I look forward to sharing them with you in coming weeks. I hope you enjoy this one.- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
StuckInCustoms > The Alien Garden I Found on that Away Mission Okay, here is a great mystery. I know you guys like it when I post a photo and you have to guess where it is. Y'all are so dang smart that you figure it out in just a few hours. This one is harder. I'll be very impressed if anyone can figure out this humid place. Look at those wonderful trees! Who can believe something so cool is here in Earth...- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
StuckInCustoms > Flying on a Harley This was shot in downtown Austin during the recent ROT Biker Rally. This guy was flying by at about 20 MPH down 6th street.- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
StuckInCustoms > Where Geothermal Steam Covers the Land Every time I go to Yellowstone, I see something different. There are hundreds of great locations, each one of which should be visited for at least an hour during three different times of the day. This is a new area I visited on my most recent trip there. I don't think it is always this steamy, since the air temp has to be a certain delta to the water. I don't know why, but it's always fun to sit there and watch the boiling water. I don't enjoy watching boiling water in my kitchen, but the sight there is always mesmerizing.. There is also the strong smell of sulfur carried through the area. It wasn't repulsive at all, but it did give me the just-took-off-my-helmet-on-an-away-mission feeling.- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
StuckInCustoms > The Haunting Interior of the Basilica I visited the Basilica of San Lorenzo, which was built in the 4th and 5th centuries from material from the leftover Roman amphitheater.- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
StuckInCustoms > Guarding the Beaches of LA Being a lifeguard in LA must be a great job. Or it might be a boring job. Or it might have occasions of greatness filled with a long periods of boredom. There was a lifeguard sitting here in the station on Manhattan Beach when I took the shot. I guess I could have asked her while I stood outside her station for 10 minutes with all my glass aimed right at her. I kept giving her a nod of confidence, indicating that everything was okay. I was really just waiting for the colors to get right in the reflection.- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
StuckInCustoms > Umbrellas at the Shoppes at the Palazzo This shot is from the recent expansion from the Venetian shopping area. It’s really beautiful inside and these designers should be given some kind of award! The best I can do here is try to honor their design with good photo of the place. It’s actually quite a difficult venue to capture! I have it from a few angles. There are many other beautiful ones, including one from down below looking up. I’ll be sure to include that at some point in the future!- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
StuckInCustoms > New York is Alive and Well It's been a few years since I have been to New York, and Times Square is better than before! I was actually in New York on 9/11, so it's always good to go back to the city and see everything is still awesome. Maybe next time I come, we can all do a flash mob and hit B&H Photo for a while - that would be fun!- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
StuckInCustoms > An Afternoon in Chicago I've been spending a lot of time in Chicago lately. Here is a picture just before sunset from the top of the John Hancock building.- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
StuckInCustoms > The Lighthouse This is one desolate place. I was on the coast of Iceland where the sea and the wind were absolutely ripping their way past the lighthouse. I always imagine what it is like to be inside of one of those lighthouses, all night long through the winter. I can’t even envision what that would be like, and after only a short time there in the icy wind, I got the willies and was happy to get out of there.- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
StuckInCustoms > On the Road to Somewhere After an accident on an ATV, I was stuck on this road for a long time while waiting for rescue. Luckily, the camera and tripod were uninjured and the time I was waiting for happened to be sunset. There are worse things in life than this!- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
