StuckInCustoms > Beautiful and Classic Savannah When I drove through Savannah, I met up with my good friend Scott Kublin who showed me some of the sights. This gem of a place was one of the first places we visited. I walked up and down the road a few times to find the most interesting place to take a photo. This one was taken with the 14-24 lens -- although the other interesting shot was the 200mm shot from much further away. I decided to go with this one because I really liked the position of the sun.- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
StuckInCustoms > The Power Lunch Here is a wonderful photo mystery. Can anyone name this spot? Where could it be? I hope this is the hardest photo mystery yet. Whenever I put up one of these, the clever people in the community get it almost right away. But perhaps this one is a bit different. If no one can figure it out, it will be revealed in an upcoming story tomorrow... Actually, tomorrow is the first of a long-form three-part story. ...something a bit different for you!- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
StuckInCustoms > Secret Meetings in Hollywood This photo was taken in Los Angeles (Santa Monica to be exact) after I got finished with one of those Hollywood Power-Lunches you always hear about. I'm not yet ready to talk about it... but I just wanted to put out a little teaser for you. I'll be sure to put out the full story when it is ready to be told. So, anyway, after the meeting I took my camera and tripod across a few streets over to the beach. I'm not sure, but I'm fairly certain this is where they filmed the opening to Three's Company. It's burned into some deep layer... strange bits of my 70's brain were firing away as I was walking down the coast. The palm trees and the blue sky -- they were so LA -- so I set up to grab a shot.- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
StuckInCustoms > Your Road Ahead While in New Zealand, we took a series of roads in the south island to go out into the country for an afternoon of archery. On the way there, the roads became less and less robust, and smaller roads would peel off in different directions. I spotted this road and pulled over to take a shot. This one called for the 70-200mm lens to get that interesting compression factor. The archery was a lot of fun. We visited a little farm, and a 10-year-old girl was running the archery bit. My 9-year-old, Ethan, took a liking to her. So that she could better understand him, he did his best to put on his fake New Zealand accent. At one point, she asked Ethan, with eyes wide, "Oh, I've always wanted to visit America. Tell me! What is it like?"Ethan crinkled his brow, in deep concentration, and said, "You see, it's rather booooteefull." - Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
StuckInCustoms > Sunset at Hearst Castle Maybe people in California get spoiled by good sunsets. Not living there, I don't know! But, when you are sitting up high on a mountain, in a castle-mansion, overlooking the Pacific Ocean, how could you not get spoiled? And this isn't even the main castle. This is just one of the guest-houses. Hearst had several guest houses there, each one as stunning as the next.If you are enjoying these Hearst photos, I've now published six so far. You can see all the Hearst Castle Photos. Note: These are also accessible via the "Categories" down on the right side of the page.- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
StuckInCustoms > Mikimoto It wasn't until my third trip to Tokyo that I finally got to explore more of Ginza. It's a pretty high-toned area that is filled with the best of the best. Every elite store you can think of is fully represented, and the designers have pulled out all the stops to make sure they get noticed.Although not on the main street, this amazing Mikimoto store grabbed my eye. I walked around the building a few times to find an interesting angle and shot away!- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
StuckInCustoms > Camper Vans in New Zealand So, I am NOT a “Camper Van” kinda guy. I don’t own an RV, and I never even really liked them very much. Maybe I was used to the giant US versions of these things… ponderously heavy and scary. The NZ Campers are not quite like that.I got one of the biggest campers, but it still was not as huge as the American ones, which is a good thing. It was big enough to sleep 6 people, even though we only had 4. There was plenty of room!- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
StuckInCustoms > Kea Campers in New Zealand While I was in New Zealand, I got up close and personal with my Kea Camper.  That thing was my home for almost a month, and my wife, two kids, and I lived the heck out of it.  Before the trip, I did a lot of research to find the best one... I wasn't disappointed.  In fact, I liked it so much, I grabbed a bunch of pics of it!  I'll add them to the New Zealand Campers page in a bit. I will also add a bunch more information on there about suggested routes, tips, tricks, and more. I've been meaning to do that for a while... can't find the time. Also, the Kea Campers people know about me and the site - they wanted to offer you a special deal. Just mention STUCKINCUSTOMS when you reserve, and you'll get all free camping equipment! Cool deal, eh? I put a few things about the "Camper Van" experience on that page... the good and the bad. The best part? The kids having a blast in their "Clubhouse" upstairs above the driver. The worst part? Getting that beast up curvy, tight, uphill mountains... that caused a bit of unnecessary stress!- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
StuckInCustoms > My Adventure Buddy in Argentina
I'm relatively picky when it comes to travel partners. #1 rule: Don't annoy me. Is that too much to ask?

So, I choose my travel partners with care... and I did not make any mistakes with my Russian friends in Argentina.
StuckInCustoms > The RAW Fireworks (and yes, that is a handheld single shot) So, I have in my hot little hands an Advance Copy of Photomatix Pro 4.0 (BTW, the STUCKINCUSTOMS Coupon Code will still save you the most money). Wow this thing is cool! I'm in the middle of a full review/preview. This isn't really it... just a preview of a preview. I know... how lame of me, but I am so excited that I want to leak out a few details.Today's fireworks photo below from Disney World a few nights ago was just processed with Photomatix 4. This is from a single RAW photo. This was a handheld shot as I was walking along a pathway near the Crystal Palace. Amazing, eh?- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
StuckInCustoms > A Night with Harley
These bikes are really a fun subject for photography. I get excited every time I head out for one of these events. There are so many styles, customizations, and characters behind them... you never see the same thing twice.

Setting up for these photos is also somewhat of a fun challenge. Getting the right "background" is very important to me... sometimes it just does not work out, so I have to move on and leave a pretty bike alone. The other thing about these bikes, which you don't realize until you take thousands of photos of them, is that you probably only have a 12.5% chance of getting a good composition and background. I break it down thusly:

StuckInCustoms > Another Beautiful California Night Here is photo from the very fun and engaging Photowalk in San Clemente, California. Do you guys know who David Arkenstone is? He's a musician that has done a few songs I'm sure you've heard ... StuckInCustoms > Prismatic Steam in Yellowstone
This is the beautiful grand prismatic spring, which you have probably seen featured here before ...

StuckInCustoms > The Wines of New Zealand I'm afraid I'm not much of a wine aficionado. I will not deny that I am always envious of those that are (or, appear to be) quite knowledgeable about the subject matter. Although I've been on about 10 different winery tours, I think I retain very little since I am not a wine drinker.- Trey RatcliffRead the rest of this entry, including a discussion on why photographs were not allowed at Isabella's recent dance recital, at the Stuck in Customs blog.
StuckInCustoms > The Last Pier I made two long drives to Milford Sound. Actually, on the first one I didn't quite make it all the way because it got too dark ...- Trey Ratcliff Read the rest of this entry at the Stuck in Customs blog.
