StuckInCustoms > Sting in Concert in Nimes So I'm going to see Sting in concert this week right here in this old Roman ruin. I'm very excited to see what it will be like to see something like this here... StuckInCustoms > Flaxen Horse at Sunrise The problem with horses in Iceland is that you can't pass a farm with them frolicking about without...wondering...hmmm...I wonder if I could get a good shot. And then, of course, something in you tells you that Yes, of course, you could get a good shot. And then, you have to come up with reasons not to stop at every farm and take photos of every horse, since they all come out interesting.So, naturally, this is a strange situation, in which you have to willingly force yourself to drive past something that you know would be amazing. StuckInCustoms > The Pool at the Traders in Kuala Lumpur This is an open-air area atop a beautiful hotel in KL. There’s an awesome pool and a trendy bar where you can have drinks and watch all sorts of sylph-like Euros make sinuous music-video-like moves in and out of the pool. StuckInCustoms > Snow in Nikko It was a freezing cold morning when I woke up to explore this temple area of Nikko. Luckily, I was the first person to arrive, and I was pretty much alone for this early morning because of the snow. StuckInCustoms > Horse in Landscape Remember what I said a few days ago about reasons for no stopping for almost every horse photo in Iceland? Forget I said that. I don't know what I was talking about. Go ahead and stop... I mean, how on earth can you pass this buy?These horses remind me a bit of the sirens in Odysseus, distracting me from my destination... StuckInCustoms > The Beautiful Beijing Airport This is a place where I never had trouble with a tripod. I didn't need any special permission... everyone just left me alone. I think that in China everyone is basically scared to death of the authorities, so this means the authorities don't really need to do much in the way of diligent "enforcement." And, there seemed to be no rules against photography, so it was easy to go hog-wild in this beautiful airport.This is another good reason to take your tripod with you on the plane... If it is checked down below, then there's nothing to do but eat Chili's Express or, the Chinese equivalent, KFC Express. StuckInCustoms > Walking Through Paris Sometimes things on the map look really close together... and then you start walking and get about 25% of the way there and you become quite shocked at how far it actually is. This feeling can be a little defeating, until you realize of course that you are in a beautiful city like Paris and there is fabulous stuff all around you. And then, you remember you are a photographer with a ridiculously easy job, and everything comes right back in perspective.And, speaking of that, believe me... I am super-grateful for this strange life I have. I never take anything for granted, and I get excited like a little kid on all these trips... love getting on planes... love the adventure... all of this sort of stuff. StuckInCustoms > PCH Sunset Driving down Highway 1 in California gives you a front stage to the sunset. There's no bad place to stop, so you can just pull out at the right moment, take a shot, and hop back in the car. It's so easy -- it almost feels like cheating! I'm thinking about a much longer California trip soon. I may start up in Seattle then drive all the way down to LA, taking my time along the way to explore places for photography. StuckInCustoms > The Vaults I find that every time I take a photo of a huge cathedral, like the granddaddy here in London, that I take a landscape and a portrait shot. You just can't get it all in! And then, I think, well if I could, why wouldn't I just go ahead and do a full 360 shot? Where do you stop? Hehe this is a problem in a way...But, seriously, I always have trouble enjoying panoramas and 360 degree photos on the web. StuckInCustoms > Arriving at the Grand Opera House I went the wrong way, but I ended up here. It was a little embarrassing, to be honest... I was taking Tina to the Arc de Triumph and I was quite sure that I go this certain direction... we were plodding along, and I look up say, "Oh bother, we're at the opera!" But, no matter. The light was good and I had the rig up and ready to shoot in no time! StuckInCustoms > Dinner with Friends in Nimes The designer of the site here, Fabien Barral (see his site), took me to this wonderful little restaurant in Nimes for dinner. It was way off the beaten path, and we never would have found it... Plus, there's also something very nice about sitting there with local people, talking about local politics, the economy, art, life, and everything. Fabien is a great guy, and he's become a great friend over the years. StuckInCustoms > Big Sur Sunset Last week I promised I would reveal the photo today that I took during the video above, and here it is. I guess you can get the sense from that video how windy it was! What a crazy day... I spent all afternoon and evening getting ready for this. There was a decent amount of hiking, preparation, and walking-around to figure out the best place to stand. Maybe the bad thing about that video is showing how easy it all appears to be... in future videos, you may see some more of the problems that I face and how I deal with them. StuckInCustoms > Colors in Beijing It was pretty late in the evening and I was tired after shooting all day long. My assistant and I stopped at a tea house along the banks of a little lake to relax. We had a very nice serving girl that kept bringing us more and more food and drinks. I think she expected us to eat in a dainty way, but we most certainly did not. StuckInCustoms > The Haunting And here is yet another from Disney! So, I was sitting there in the Tower of Terror taking photos inside the first room into which the group is ushered. It’s the one where they show that Twilight Zone clip. Anyway, I just stayed in there as five groups came in and out, trying to get a photo. Eventually, the cast member asked me (in a nice way) what I was doing. I told her that I thought the room was awesome and I was capturing it for my blog. She seemed curious, so I whipped it out (my iPad). She started going through my photos and was very excited. And then she told me to follow her, and she opened up the little gate that gave me full access to the lobby itself. StuckInCustoms > Time Traveling in the Steampunk Subway - Thank you for the inside tip on this amazing place from Friend X. This incredible subway station under Paris has undergone a full Steampunk conversion, thanks to the mind of François Schuiten, a comic book artist from Belgium. Each tiny circular window lining the edges is a portal to another world. This is all influenced by Les Cités Obscures, where humans live on the counter-Earth. A wonderful concept… I think many of us on Google+ already feel one with the idea of the counter-Earth.If you'd like to visit this stop someday, pull up a huge subway map and find your connections to the Arts et Métiers stop. The Beautiful Beijing Airport


This is a place where I never had trouble with a tripod. I didn't need any special permission... everyone just left me alone. I think that in China everyone is basically scared to death of the authorities, so this means the authorities don't really need to do much in the way of diligent "enforcement." And, there seemed to be no rules against photography, so it was easy to go hog-wild in this beautiful airport.

This is another good reason to take your tripod with you on the plane... If it is checked down below, then there's nothing to do but eat Chili's Express or, the Chinese equivalent, KFC Express. (Yes, KFC is ALL OVER Asia for some reason...but some of you probably know this already!)
