StuckInCustoms > Fisherman in Switzerland I got these fishermen outside of the window of a moving train. And that moving train was thanks to you great readers here of the blog, that recommended that I take a ride on the Glacier Express from St. Moritz to Zermatt. It was a great suggestion! In fact, it was so good, I think I will have to ask for more advice in the future!- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
StuckInCustoms > Sunset at Glacier National Park
I'm having a nice weekend processing photos. I just completed this one a few hours ago, and it brought back good memories of Glacier National Park. I don't think I ever really got warm there. Even in the room there was a steady chill. This is a strange memory of that place... I normally don't mind the cold as there are a few occasions to warm up and reset my system.

StuckInCustoms > Alone at the Harbor
These mornings in Iceland -- I'll never get used to them. It's fully bright even though it's only 4 AM -- but the streets are dead. You expect to see at least one other soul out and about... but there are none. Maybe I play too many zombie games... or no, that can't be it... no such thing as too many zombie games! :)

StuckInCustoms > Little Girl in China
Chinese kids can be awfully cute. I don't know why this is... maybe because they are just kinda different... I can't put my finger on it. They kind of remind me of really cute pets... that is a strange thing to say, but maybe you know what I mean. Anyhoo, I've been processing with a few new techniques, and this is one of the results...

StuckInCustoms > Beautiful Akaroa
This is a great town over on the coast of New Zealand. I only spent a short time there, but I'd like to get back. I think it was one of THE most recommended places in NZ, and that's saying a lot, because the recommendations come fast and furious there.

StuckInCustoms > Chicago Forever
I took this from on top of one of the highest buildings in Chicago. Everyone else was shooting in the other direction - towards all the big buildings. Well, I did too to be honest... but, then I came over here... looking out this way was strangely compelling, so I decided to give it a go! :)

StuckInCustoms > Roanoke Island Lighthouse I’m visiting family for Thanksgiving here on Roanoke Island, and I went out last night after a storm to take some photos. This area is known for beautiful lighthouses, so I put myself on a little mission.I didn’t initially plan on going out to take photos. It started with a jog on the beach a bit before sunset. I was jogging north, listening to good music, and the sun was on me. But, ahead of me, the clouds were dark and scary, like the ones circling Mordor. One of those surreal scenes unfolded in front of me… maybe you know the kind. The sun lit everything perfectly below the horizon, and above the horizon was heavy and foreboding. It was then that I decided that it would be an interesting night for photos! So I jogged back to the house, got my rig, and headed out. All this while, I was still in shorts and a t-shirt, which were now wet with rain since the clouds had come to cover me up on the way home. I drove to this nearby lighthouse, but there was no good way to get this angle. The trees in front were about eight feet high, and there was no break in them… the only thing I could do is pull my car over (a rented minivan), and climb up on top with my tripod. There are not many things more slippery than the top of a wet minivan! So, I’m sure I looked like quite a fool clambering my way up there… but up there I got.- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
StuckInCustoms > Man Sketching in Uzès
After spending the day walking around the old market, I started to walk back to where I started. Weaving through small alleys, I would occasionally enter larger courtyards. In one of them, I saw this man, sitting on a step, and sketching the scene.

When I took the photo, he looked up and gave a little smile, then went back to his business.

StuckInCustoms > The Lighthouse Here is another photo taken during my Thanksgiving holiday trip to visit family on the Outer Banks of North Carolina.Even though I spent most of the time with family doing family-stuff, I did head out on occasion to take a few photos. I never got to visit the various piers… but the wonderful lighthouses are great subjects for photography… and the skies worked nicely too!- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
StuckInCustoms > Zurich at Night
It was a cool night -- one of those nights when I was glad I lugged around a jacket all day.

These dark waters that run through old European cities at night set an interesting mood. I can't quite put my finger on it... heavy and deep and dark... but strange and light and reflective on top. I think some of these things you can't quite see end up in the photo, somehow.

StuckInCustoms > The Edge of the World This was one of my first times on a black sand beach, and it was even stranger because it was at least eight hours since I had seen another human. The sound the black sand made was something between normal beach sand and fresh snow. It was a slippery crunch with a slight wet sucking sound as my foot pulled up.This place is pretty close to one of the recent volcanic eruptions in Iceland. Very close to the town of Vik, this is on the other side of a tall and narrow mountain range. You can kind of drive anywhere. Anywhere. And this looked interesting and kind of scary… so I just drove and drove across the black sand until I got to this place… like something a wicked map designer would make in Skyrim.- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
StuckInCustoms > The Pennybacker Bridge This place is right by my house…. I really have no excuse for not going up here almost every night! It takes less than 10 minutes to drive and hike up here… sometimes I actually feel bad about my laziness in this area. It’s usually not too crowded up here. Maybe a couple or two will sit and watch the sunset. It’s a bit dangerous – a sharp cliff that drops off into the freeway on one side and the water on the other.- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
StuckInCustoms > The Canals of Lijiang at Night
There must be a hundred little canals spread here and there through the old town. There are so many opportunities for photos! This is what we call a target-rich environment.

This is the town I was in with Tom Anderson -- every night we explored a new area. It was an amazing time... I can't wait to go back some day!

StuckInCustoms > Two Paths This path around Crater Lake winds this way and that. It occasionally opens up to a wide vista where I can see the lake and morning sun. But the path itself was quite nice with the sun slicing in through the early-yellow leaves. You might remember this from the video I made while here a few weeks ago. As usual, you can find that video and more on my YouTube channel!- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
StuckInCustoms > Girl Outside Restaurant
I normally don't re-process photos. Most of you may know this about me. But, I went over to have a little session with Jaime Ibarra (at the same time I talked him into writing an eBook for us!), and I took a few photos with me to work on. This is one of them. He has a very interesting technique, and I thought this would be a good candidate.

I found this girl sitting outside of a restaurant. There's a dead time around 3 to 4 PM... to late for lunch and too early for dinner. I suppose she worked in the restaurant and was just taking a break...
