StuckInCustoms > Unstable I was in a remote ranch in Montana for a week last year. Almost every day we would head out to ride horses, find a distant fishing hole, or just randomly explore. Everything was great until I decided to test the bear spray into the wind.- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
StuckInCustoms > A View from the Ranch in Argentina I've always heard about how wonderful it is to have a ranch near the wine country in Argentina. But not until I was down there did I really find that out in person. The idea of walking across a ranch during the nether hours of the day and seeing something like this... well... it kind of makes me want to just go ahead and retire down there. All I need is broadband and these kind of vistas... that's the life, eh? I hope I was able to adequately capture the majesty of that place with this photo.- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
StuckInCustoms > There's a pool party at sunset - everyone mark your chair with a towel I have the pool reserved for all of us! Be sure to mark down what you'll be bringing along (and if you are on Flickr mark your chair with a note)!I think pretty much all kinds of food and drink are welcome. I'll bring a BBQ pit and an ambulance in case there are any problems. And I hope someone brings a boom box. Are they still called that? I don't know. Maybe that means it will be a lame party because I don't even know if they are called boom boxes any more, but I'm sure I'm not the only one that will bring a bit of 80's music.- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
StuckInCustoms > Sunset Storm over Kuala Lumpur A series of violent storms came through Kuala Lumpur, allowing a few surreal shots of the city. It went from very dark and cloud to torrential downpour to beautiful sunset. It reminded me of the storms on the plains of Texas.Kuala Lumpur is a very interesting city and is quite unique in Asia. I’d love to get up on top of those Petronas Towers there to take some shots, but I look like a suspicious white guy with my huge backpack. They tell me all white people look alike. …and smell like wet puppies.- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
StuckInCustoms > The Church in the Wilderness before an Icelandic Summer Storm I drove from one end of Iceland to the other by myself, going down almost any road except the main one. I traveled down a little gravel road for a long way until I found this tiny church and graveyard. I jumped out to shoot this before the afternoon showers came down.- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
StuckInCustoms > KLIA I spend way too much time in this terminal, so I decided to grab an HDR shot. This is Kuala Lumpur International Airport. It is a great airport, just like most Asian airports I visit. They generally blow away US airports in terms of design and functionality. When compared to international hubs like LAX and CTG, there is no comparison.- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
StuckInCustoms > There Were No Fireworks, But There Was This Pretty Sunset I went out to my secret spot to get fireworks shots (that is not all that secret), but they did not shoot off because of all the high water and floods. But, there was still a great sunset... so I snapped this one.I'm off to Shanghai - fresh shots soon!- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
StuckInCustoms > Sometimes it's fun to be impractical Isn't it? Of course it is... I'm really not too much of a materialistic guy. I think my three biggest expenses are travel, good food, and camera equipment.Speaking of that last one, the Nikon D3x was finally made official, and I'm gonna be the first (or so they tell me) person to get one in Austin! Sadly, I think I will have more fun with that camera than with this car.- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
StuckInCustoms > Across from Ground Zero This is right in the middle of the World Trade Center area where all the reconstruction was going on. As most of you know, I'm not a fan of modern art, except for when things just work out and something like this comes together.- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
StuckInCustoms > The Morning River Did you all know I have a free Newsletter? You'll love it... all kinds of great photos and free tips! Here is a photo from a crisp and cool morning in Glacier National Park. This river empties from a icy clear lake. I was running back and forth between here and the lake as quickly as I could to get the light as it crept over the horizon.Late next week I'll be taking a little photo-trip down the PCH (famous Highway 1 in California). There's a Real-Time Web Summit in Mountain View; after that, I'm driving down to San Diego. If any of you are going to be at the conference too, be sure to drop me a note or a tweet!- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
StuckInCustoms > The Secret Underground of Iceland It was about 5 in the morning in Reykjavik and I was colder than any human is supposed to be, but I had my coffee and tripod and was on a mission to catch the sunrise. While en route, I passed the icy city hall while the dawn light was breaking to capture this.- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
StuckInCustoms > Sunrise Discovery of Angkor Wat I feel a bit like a British explorer, surrounded by my cadre of Cambodians at $18 a day. They drive me around, carry my tripod, bring me water when I am thirsty, and seem anxious for me to colonize the area. A member of my cadre woke me up early this morning at 5 AM.- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
StuckInCustoms > The Bay at Portofino

This isn’t really Portofino, but it sure does look like it, eh? We might even make the case that it is more pretty than the real Portofino! This is a beautiful resort in Orlando, over at Universal Studios.

StuckInCustoms > The Lost Hindu Temple in the Jungle Mist If you want to see how I made this (and how you can too!), visit my HDR Tutorial. I hope it gives you some new tricks!I took an afternoon hike in the remote area of Java just outside the town of Jogjakarta to explore this temple. It's called Prambanan, and it was built around 850 CE.The rain was pouring down, which left me and Will there pretty much alone, except for a few wild deer in the area. I waited through the rain because I knew if it cleared there would be a great sunset. I had a little baggy over my camera to keep it dry until everything passed...While waiting on the rain to stop, I walked around and did more up close exploration of the temples of Vishnu, Shiva, and Brahma, which were three of the largest in the complex. All the temple blocks were on the edge of collapse, after many centuries of Indonesian earthquakes and volcanic eruptions.- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
StuckInCustoms > Stuck in India - Humayun's Tomb If you want to see how I made this (and how you can too!), visit my HDR Tutorial. I hope it gives you some new tricks! This is a picture of the Tomb of Humayun in Delhi. I arrived during Diwali, the biggest annual festival that involves a burning a lot of things. Most of the tombs, mausoleums, temples, and the like were surprisingly empty, giving me clean access to cool places like this without dopey tourists getting in the way of sweet photography. It is the next morning now and the air in Delhi is covered with the smoke from last night's festivities... There is this acrid smell of stale carbon and it's not exactly like a trip to Sedona. Luckily, I am getting out of the city today because my hosts have been kind enough to give me a ride up to Agra to visit the fort and Taj Mahal... more pictures coming soon, so stay tuned!- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.

There's a pool party at sunset - everyone mark your chair with a towel

I have the pool reserved for all of us! Be sure to mark down what you'll be bringing along (and if you are on Flickr mark your chair with a note)!

I think pretty much all kinds of food and drink are welcome. I'll bring a BBQ pit and an ambulance in case there are any problems. And I hope someone brings a boom box. Are they still called that? I don't know. Maybe that means it will be a lame party because I don't even know if they are called boom boxes any more, but I'm sure I'm not the only one that will bring a bit of 80's music.
