StuckInCustoms > The Shuttle Machine I went out to the launchpad during the “retraction event” which is quite exciting. Well, it’s kind of exciting because it’s all in slow motion. The unit retracts very very slowly – so slowly you barely even notice it. StuckInCustoms > Farm in the Vastness When you drive across Iceland, scene after scene is soooo…. epic! You just get this feeling of a vastness that permeates everything. StuckInCustoms > Construction in Cleveland I went out with my host during the Kent State speech, Lester Lefton, and this is the first place he brought me! I don’t think other guests get to do things like this… you know… go to dangerous construction sites and stuff… But, if you could not tell, it turns out to be an awesome place for a little photography adventure! :)This was actually the FIRST photo I ever took with a D800, and it was using Lester’s camera. I put in my memory card, which felt a little weird. But then when I looked through the viewfinder and snapped away, it felt like my own! StuckInCustoms > The View from the Contemporary Resort After I got off the cruise, we spent a few nights in Disneyworld. I had not stayed in the Contemporary since I was a little boy, so it was kind of fun to be back again.We had a great room with this view out the window. StuckInCustoms > The Melt The point where ice turns into river is tough to find. Sometimes it requires a lot of hiking, and sometimes you never find it. But when you do find that rip between worlds, you feel the full weight of the discovery.I’m usually a bit afraid to get to close or stand on the ice. StuckInCustoms > Drama at Versailles This is one of the smaller “guest houses” at Versailles. It was filled with all kinds of art and the sort of ornate furnishings one would expect of French Royalty. StuckInCustoms > Overgrown Tower Atop the Great Wall You may remember seeing towers that connect the sections of the Great Wall. Here I am inside of one of them that has fallen to ruins and the vegetation has taken over. StuckInCustoms > Baker Beach and the Golden Gate Bridge This beach is not the easiest to get to if you don’t have a car. It’s at kind of a dead-end place, and getting a taxi to wait for you can get expensive. That’s one reason it took me many trips to finally get over here, but I’m glad I did. StuckInCustoms > The Underwater Cave of Mystery This is a very cool place!There are a thousand boulders that are stacked up all over The Baths area of Virgin Gorda. The beaches are actually separated where the boulders get really intense. This is one of those areas, and to get here, you have to duck and shimmy and slide around. StuckInCustoms > Girl Carrying Basket in China These out-of-the-way places are some of the best for photography because the locals actually like photographers from the west. About 98% of the time they find us interesting and worthy of a smile. They seem to like the attention we give them with our cameras and there are many smiles to be had.I don’t take a lot of photos of people smiling, because I like to take photos before people notice or right as soon as they notice. StuckInCustoms > Aulani Resort & Spa in Ko Olina I didn’t stay at this hotel, but I did visit for a few hours one evening to take photos for fun. Tom and I went over here since we heard it was pretty nice. Disney resorts are often built for photography, especially in the dusk hours when there is a cool mixture of natural and artificial light. StuckInCustoms > Stilts in Monterey We’ve had two great PhotoWalks in Monterey. Here’s one of the photos I took during the event. I can’t remember if it was the first or second one now! StuckInCustoms > The Comet in Queenstown On the night of the Aurora Australis, I was about to pack up and head back to the car when I saw this amazing aurora right over the top of my head. It made this long triangle across the ceiling of the sky, so I had to do that thing where I get my camera in that strange position on the tripod of pointing up. There is always a tough yoga move you gotta perfect to get the camera situated at the right angle. StuckInCustoms > Hiking Around Milford I went around a bend in Milford and was greeted with these strange lost-world type trees. You can see the famous Mitre Peak there on the right. There is a wide array of lush vegetation around here because of the constant moisture.
