Downtown Sydney I didn’t get to spend as much time in Sydney as I would have liked, but I do look forward to a return trip!It turns out that one of the better angles of Sydney requires a long drive across a bridge and then a series of confusing roads to find this little spot. I’ve forgotten the name (maybe one of you smart Aussies can help me)!While I was here, it was super-windy. Maybe that is normal in this spot. I’m not sure. StuckInCustoms > Chinese Lanterns Whenever I walk around taking photos, I usually have two cameras with me. My second camera usually has a 50mm prime, or something along these lines. I capture thousands and thousands of little photos, but I hardly ever post them. I don’t know why… maybe it is sort of the one-photo-per-day thing here on the blog. StuckInCustoms > Away from Iceland for the Summer This is the first summer in quite some time that I have not been to Iceland. Many of the regular readers here know how I like to go there every summer during the solstice for a serious photography adventure. It’s very nice to spend countless days and nights there by myself… just listening to strange music and finding wonderful little places to take photos.I didn’t go this summer because of the big move to New Zealand. That ended up taking a massive amount of time to get everything settled down here. StuckInCustoms > The Resting Egg National Centre for the Performing Arts in China is one of the easiest AND most challenging things to photograph. This is an interesting duality, I think. Obviously, it’s a beautiful structure, and it’s easy to access and circumnavigate, but that is not the “easy” that I mean. I suppose it’s easy because it’s hard to take a bad picture of the the structure. The challenging bit is doing something very interesting. And that comes with the use of light and composition. StuckInCustoms > The Movie Set of New York City I shot this from the Google offices in Manhattan a few weeks ago. Luke and I ended up staying up late at the offices, and we wanted to wait until the sunset rolled through… and when sunset finally came, we discovered that we could not even go outside! All the windows and doors had been nailed shut by security, so there was no chance of getting out. StuckInCustoms > Boat in Oahu I waded out into the lukewarm water with my tripod to get this scene. I never had taken my tripod into water before like this, so I did not expect it to fill up with water. I guess it makes sense, upon reflection. And it turns out that it is a gift that keeps on giving. StuckInCustoms > Inside the Google Veniceplex Last time I was in Venice, California, I went into the new Google offices there. They recently moved into the Frank Gehry building, and everything is quite stylish, as you would suspect. Just to the left is a conference room that looks like something out of a Bond movie. StuckInCustoms > The Russian Sub and the Queen Mary This was my first time to sneak onto a Russian sub.These are the kinds of things you probably are not supposed to do, but I figure the risk was about 1000% lower since the sub was no longer in Russian waters. In fact, it’s in friendly Long Beach, docked alongside the Queen Mary.There was almost no security, and the gate was fairly easy to scale. I was with Tom, and somehow we talked one another into it. StuckInCustoms > The Swirling Seashore Every now and then you see some rocks along the coast that are not smooth, but covered with moss and clinging vegetation.
