StuckInCustoms > The Internal Weather System This is another view inside the cavernous symphony hall in Beijing. The place is so enormous that you can see the beginnings of little clouds inside when the lights move a certain way. I actually think only part of it is related to the size – the other part is related to the awful pollution all around Beijing. There is so much particulate in the air, and it fills up inside big places like this. StuckInCustoms > Relaxing in the South of France When I visited my friend (and website designer) Fabien, he invited me over to his home in the country. It was amazing! We had a picnic outside on with a view of the rolling hills and vines of the wine country. This little hammock hung under a tree near where we ate. One of the best things about it was that instead of grass, there was a field of mint underneath us. StuckInCustoms > Crossing the Street in New York City This photo was taken very nearby the Grand Central Station photo I posted a few days ago. In fact, I think it’s just one block south!While I was taking this, a gentleman-fan of the blog was giving me “that look”. After I was done taking the photo, I beckoned him over to say hello! StuckInCustoms > The Alps from Above Scott Kublin and I took the train from Zermatt through the Alps to St. Moritz. Right after we arrived, we went to the top of the nearest mountain to take photos and have dinner. This place seemed to fit the bill!If you ever want to take that train — I recommend it! StuckInCustoms > The Old Train Station in Los Angeles Here’s another place I found thanks to sweet Stuck On Earth. I think LA has a bunch of these places that are kinda secret – sort of hidden away and no one would ever find them. For example, I can’t think of a reason I would ever go into the train station in Los Angeles. Maybe if trains were a bit better in the US, then I would have occasioned them… anyway, I’m glad I found out about this place.Tom and I went in here and had a fun time shooting. We were approached by security because of our tripods. We thought we were in heap-big-trouble, but it turns out they brought a form to sign right there on the spot. StuckInCustoms > Along the Coast of Oahu It doesn’t take too long to drive around the edge of Oahu — maybe just a few hours or so. This is pretty convenient to quickly check the whole island for weather and lighting conditions. When there is interesting weather in one part, there is probably something quite different in another part of the island. StuckInCustoms > Exploring Battery Park Thanks again to people from New York that suggested we have the PhotoWalk end here in Battery Park. I had never been here before, and it was scenic and nice. There was no crowd there (well, except for us), and we had a very pleasant and relaxing evening.I think this was the final photo I took that evening… I was happy to see it while I was in the middle of saying good-bye to everyone! I think one of the best unofficial hikes is right around Monkey Creek here. It’s certainly worth parking your car and spending a few hours walking around the area. StuckInCustoms > Shopping in the Queen Victoria Building Whenever anyone (non-photographers) sees me with my tripod in a shopping mall, they assume I must be on some kind of a commercial assignment! I guess there is still a general association of big equipment to commercial photography by those outside of our sport.See that castle in the middle? StuckInCustoms > Towering Notre Dame Notre Dame in Paris is such a fun subject for photography! There are no shortage of angles, times of day, and compositions for this place. It's probably like having a really cute kid or an awesome dog - there are no bad shots! It reminds me a little of the church I went in tonight at Stanford. Someone I was with told me it was one of the first places ever shot with HDR. Is that true? StuckInCustoms > The Church in Limelight This is Le Sacre Couer in Paris. It's a beautiful old Catholic church that sits in the Montmartre section of Paris. I tend to walk around these places 5-10 times as the light is falling... looking at various angles and the like. I see some of the same tourists on every trip around the horn, and they always wonder what the heck I am doing.
