Bryant Park in New York City I stayed in a cool hotel right next to this park. I’ve forgotten the name, but I found it with Hotel Tonight, which is a really cool iPad app you should get. Even better, the app has a lot of my photography in it… so it is even further recommended!This park is very pretty and relaxing. It’s even busy deep into the night… and, it seems perfectly safe, which is always extra-charming to those of us that are not from New York. StuckInCustoms > The Mysterious Places of Paris Isn’t this room amazing? It’s not in the main part of the Paris Opera House, but it had the most ornate and Inception-esque room I’ve seen in a while. I took this photo while in the middle of experimenting with the Nikon fisheye lens. StuckInCustoms > Christmas Tree in Paris I visited this place about four times two weeks ago! If you saw the review yesterday, then you will note that I tried out a few lenses on this tree too. I think this one is my favorite of the shots…This amazing Christmas display is in the Galaries Lafayette. Also, on the first floor, you should go have lunch at Angelina… they have amazing hot chocolate. StuckInCustoms > Baby Snow Monkeys, Scared and Hugging Some of the adult monkeys got into a fight. I’m not sure what the fight was about. There was a female monkey with big boobs that may have been the source of it all, but I’m just speculating with my monkey-brain. StuckInCustoms > Moeraki Boulders at Sunrise A group of people from NZIPP went out for an overnight road trip to this amazing place on the east coast. I’ve always wanted to shoot them at sunrise, but it kind of requires you to sleep pretty close by. I live in Queenstown, which is about 3-4 hours away, and that would mean a 2 AM wake-up time in the summer!One of the tricky things about these boulders is ensuring you arrive at low-tide. At high-tide, they are almost totally inaccessible… so timing a sunrise with a low-tide takes a bit of planning. StuckInCustoms > The Hypercity of Shanghai When you are up in one of the taller buildings in Shanghai, you can look in almost any direction and see a Blade-Runneresque view. It’s always staggering. StuckInCustoms > Across the Estate As the event at the chateau was winding down on the final evening, we all dispersed to take late night photos in the dusk. There were good angles everywhere. One of my favorite was up under this tree. But it was also very interesting to watch where everyone else walked. It was kind of like a private photowalk… I find it endlessly fascinating to watch other photographers while I am also taking photos. StuckInCustoms > The Rising Setting Sun I’ve tried to detect pattens for when you see these streaming bits of sun at sunrise and sunset. At first, I thought it was just related to moisture and particulate in the air. Then I thought it was related to clouds five+ miles away that are naturally broken up with gaps between them of several hundred meters. Now I think it’s a combination of the two. Maybe this explains why it is so rare.Now that I live in the mountains, I never see the horizon any more. It doesn’t bother me so much, but it is harder to get these kind of shots. StuckInCustoms > The Streets of Mont Saint Michel I miss this place already!I had a magical time exploring this place night after night. It never got boring and there were hundreds of little nooks, crannies, staircases, doors, and other mysteries to discover! I even got in the middle of a cat fight while two medieval cats duked it out… the whole place was dead quiet up until the point. That sound of fighting cats is hard to ignore… and then it all went back to quiet after that.By the way, if you ever come to this amazing place, I suggest you sleep up inside the walled city. There aren’t a lot of rooms up there, so plan ahead. Looking the other way (away from Queenstown) is nearby Arrowtown and Lake Hayes. StuckInCustoms > Hard Drinking on a Disney Cruise I guess if that is what you want to do on a Disney Cruise, this is the place to do it. What an amazing bar this is! This is the second photo I posted from this location, and it shows another one of the dynamic backgrounds that swap in and out every few minutes.I spent most of my time up very close to the screens. StuckInCustoms > The Polar Extremes I’ve never been all the way to the North Pole or South Pole. I am curious, but I don’t think I’m into the extreme cold. Also, there doesn’t seem to be a lot of good photo ops for all the trouble you have to go through. So, anyway, this is about the closest I have gotten, up at the northernmost tip of the Northwest Fjordland of Iceland. StuckInCustoms > Sunset over Island I don’t make a lot of these vertical, portrait-mode sunsets. I don’t know why! Whenever I do make one in this orientation, I’m often quite happy with it… and I say to myself, “I should do this more often!” But then I come back after a hardcore sunset session, and I realize 90% of my shots are in landscape mode.My wife likes these orientations better too.
