StuckInCustoms > The Private Pool at Hearst This is the second photo of this pool I have published. It’s from the other side — the wider side. How cool would it be to have a little party in here. Let’s set that up!- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
StuckInCustoms > Alone, In Iceland I went over a high mountain pass that connects one remote part of the country into another. There’s always ice and snow up here. Well, really, it’s mostly ice and very little snow. This little stone and wood framed home stood desperately alone.- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
StuckInCustoms > Farmhouse and Roosting Birds at Dusk
I only got to stay in this magical place for one night.

If you're really into birds, then you may notice a thing or two about this photo. Iceland is known for many species of birds, and you can see a bunch of them roosting back in the cliff there.

StuckInCustoms > Milan Train Station at Midnight If you want to see how I made this (and how you can too!), visit my HDR Tutorial. I hope it gives you some new tricks!I had a super-long day in Milan. I was tired and just wanted to go back to the hotel to have a cappuccino in the bar and edit photography on my laptop. But I remembered the really pretty train station and how I wanted to get a shot with nobody around.I went in around midnight, found the perfect spot, and then shot away. The HDR process always takes that slick concrete and makes it extra-reflective. Reflective ground is always great for photography. Also, people always think that I "colored" the lights up at the top, but I did not. In fact, I never "paint" on my photos. Any color that you see in them was actually there, except in the cases when I apply a texture treatment.- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
StuckInCustoms > As Night Settles on the Old Lake Here is another photo that is too good to be true… and, unfortunately, it is.This is a replica of Portofinio, Italy. It’s a resort hotel in Orlando, Florida at Universal Studios. It’s so wonderfully fake — and so wonderful at the same time. I can’t quite decide if I like the fakeness of it all. It does make for amazing photos, though, so that is cool. Maybe it’s kind of like a really hot girl that has had a lot of plastic surgery. There’s some fake in there, but it’s still nice to look at. Okay that’s a horrible analogy… but you get the idea…hehe.- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
StuckInCustoms > Temple in the Jungle Highlands - Byodo-In I would never have guessed that something as ornate and unique as this would be buried up in the deep jungled highlands of Oahu!It is a popular destination, and I guess people in Oahu know about it, but I had never heard of such a place. This is the Byodo-In Temple, and I happened to arrive right when the sun came out. This is a nice time because the morning fog and storms had left many layers of clouds and mist in the background, which gave everything a very unusual feel…- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
StuckInCustoms > Downtown Seattle
After arriving in Seattle, I immediately went to this spot to grab a photo. I barely made it in time. I had about 30 minutes of full light left before this scene began. It gave me just enough time to set up and frame everything with the right settings. I guess "last minute" sound a little dramatic, but, really, for me, I like to have some extra time to make sure all my settings are right before that magic moment hits.

StuckInCustoms > Moonlight Clouds – Queenstown at 7:30 AMThe winter in these southern places make the sunrise rather late! I took this about 7:30 AM in the morning while the moon was still out over the sparkling Queenstown. I set up the tripod on my balcony, and this is our amazing view! I’m renting a Bach here called “The Nest” – and it has incredible views all day long… and all night long too, as you can see! :)- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the entire post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
StuckInCustoms > The Epic Harbor of Buenos Aires
I think I should not have been here.

After I was roaming around this area, a few of my Argentine friends told me it was quite dangerous. There is a popular area nearby that is much safer, but I heard it attracts the criminal element... and they are more likely to pick off the weak wildebeests on the outskirts... this was definitely the outskirts.

StuckInCustoms > Up High in QueenstownWe have finally moved into the new house here in Queenstown. I was in for less than 24 hours when I decided to get up to the top of this nearby mountain to shoot down on the whole scene. It was a perfect night – a bit cool maybe – but that can be perfect too. After I took this photo, I went back down the mountain and picked up some Thai food to take home and eat while warming up by the fire! :)- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the entire post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
StuckInCustoms > The Lonely Woods, Forever
Here is another photo from our recent Yosemite PhotoWalk last week. The valley floor is full of dense forests that can go on for an eternity. I had a wonderful time exploring these with all my fellow PhotoWalkers. I can't wait to do it all again soon.- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest, including some info on why you won't find paid blog posts on stuckincustoms.com, here at Stuck in Customs.
StuckInCustoms > The Nameless Pagoda SleepsTom and I visited this Pagoda late one evening in Li Jiang. There was zero wind, so the perfect reflection made us happy. The thing that did not make us happy was having to get on the ground with our tripods in the lowest position. I do try to avoid getting on the ground as often as possible… but when the scene is right, I guess I have no choice!- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the entire post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
StuckInCustoms > Our Galaxy over QueenstownI took this photo on the evening of the Aurora Australis a few weeks ago. I came up with (BY ACCIDENT!) a new way of orienting the Milky Way so it goes straight up and down. Really, in the sky, it is a little bit tilted to the right. Anyway, here’s the trick. When you take the photo, have your camera tilted to the left a bit. Then, when you crop later in Photoshop, turn on the “Perspective” checkbox and drag over the upper left corner until it is parallel with the Milky Way. Only people that are good at visualizing photoshop can understand what I am saying here… but I hope it helps!Next time, I will do this trick by taking the tilted-photo on purpose! :)- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the entire post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
StuckInCustoms > The Great Wall Stretches Across the SunsetBeautiful China! Isn’t the Great Wall an awesome thing? It’s so epic in every way. I do what I can to make it feel as epic as it deserves. On one of my nights there, the sun dipped halfway behind a hill. I saw it happening while I was walking along the wall by myself, so I set up for this shot…- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of the post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
StuckInCustoms > Ridge without Time This is an unusual photo, isn’t it?I started processing it, then stopped. It didn’t really require any processing… it just struck me as interesting and unusual. I can’t quite put my finger on it. I do remember being at this spot in Iceland when I took the shot, thinking it was ethereal and wonderful in a strange way.- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
