Running down to the Beach I was going down to the beach when I decided to get some quick photos up here with Glass. It didn’t take too long. Man, I sure do wish they were RAW files, but sadly they are just JPGs. It’s not the end of the world, but still… it’s a little limiting. Anyway, as you can see, the waves were crashing in and the weather was wonderful… I guess that makes up for the lack of RAW files!Actually, maybe one of you smart people can tell me why tiny cameras like this and iPhones and Androids can’t make RAW files. I don’t know the technical reason. I assume it has something to do with sensor size and how much light it can collect, but some of that hardware stuff is beyond my ken. After I got down there, I took a photo of the Natural Bridge, which you can see in the album at the blog post.- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
A Tropical Sunset I did a lot of snorkeling out in that bay. This whole area of Virgin Gorda is called The Baths, and it has some of the best beaches in the world. There are basically no waves of any consequence. So, if you’re just learning to snorkel, it’s a perfect environment. The kids had a lot of fun here too… lots of private little alcoves and caves!- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
The Rocky Beach Near Dusk And here is the final photo from the video over at the blog. As usual, you can click on it to zoom in and see more details… Every day I upload the full-rez version to SmugMug so you can download the full size version for personal use… that goes for any photo!- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
Moeraki Boulders at Uber Sunrise These Moeraki boulders are awesome in the morning! If you are going to visit this place, I suggest you get online and check a few things:1) Check the tides. Make sure there will be low tide in the morning.2) Check the sun position and time for the year.If you get those two things planned out, then you can go and spend the night there in Moeraki. You don’t want to go through all the trouble of getting into position if the conditions are wrong.- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
No Pool This Beautiful Should be Empty at a Time Like This I think the title says it all!I've never been much of a swimmer. I mean, I can swim just fine and I'm as bouyant as anyone my age should be, but I don't really like it as a form of exercise. THere is always so much that goes into the perparation bit of the exercise. Also, since I can't liseten to my iPod while I swim, that's kind of a deal-killer. I've heard they have some new water-proof MP3 players, but that just sounds like too much trouble all around.Anyway, this was a 5-exposure HDR that went from -2 to +2. I'm convinced it's the only way to shoot into the sun and get all the light levels of the details around the pool.- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
A Lonely Walk to the Ocean It was a lonely beach! So sad. I think I had a lot of things to talk about this day too! I can't remember. Sometimes Twitter and Facebook just don't cut it!In other news, I'll be at a charity function in Dallas next Saturday. They are auctioning off some of my art at my old school, Good Shepherd, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary. Now, anyone can buy raffle tickets ($15), even if you do have to go through a somewhat annoying registration process. I also understand they have a new library where one of my prints will be hung. I'll try to nab a photo of it while there!- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
Tunnel Beach This is a really beautiful and unique beach just south of Dunedin. It’s not a drive-up-and-visit-beach. It’s a drive-up-and-walk-a-long-way-then-down-a-long-tunnel-beach. Once we got down there, hardly anyone was at the beach. The views are amazing, and we even saw a few cliff divers. I think those guys are a bit crazy! :)- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
The Coastal Boulders These boulders in Moeraki are beautiful any time of the day, but morning is the best time to get this kind of light. Since it faces the ocean to the east, that morning sun comes blasting out right behind them. But no worries, if you can’t master-plan your visit to that degree, this area is beautiful any time of the day.- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
Painting the Sunset It’s strange to have multicolored coral so close to the beach, but it gave this whole sunset and turquoise water an even more dynamic palette. I’ve been getting used to using a wide-angle lens and aiming it down at the surf. It really distorts everything, but it’s hard to see the distortion in the final shot. Also, I like the effect — it tends to make everything point a little bit towards the center.- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
