The Hearst Tomb Thomas Hawk brought me to this cemetery. He always takes me to the most romantic places.He remarked (and he is right) that he is surprised that Hearst has such a “small” tomb. It does seem rather understated, compared to the other monstrosities he built. But maybe he’s just being a little bit humble in his tomb. It’s hard to say…This photo was pretty much pitch black with a little bit of light that would collect over time. Driving from Petaluma to Napa I've made this trip a few times, but it is usually in the morning and on the way from Napa to Petaluma. This is usually the situation because I stay at my mom's house before going over to do a show with Leo Laporte. This time, it was the opposite (well, kinda... I didn't sleep with Leo), but I did the show first then drove to Napa to have dinner with my mom.Tom was with me, and we were on a sharp lookout for a good sunset situation. San Francisco Before Sunrise Before I started going to the main location, Tom and I pulled over to the side of the road in Sausalito to get this picture. The water was too blue and the colors were too interesting to drive on by! San Francisco on an Early Morning I'm excited to share this one!I think this is my favorite image of San Francisco I've ever taken. It wasn't terribly difficult. The hike was pretty short, even though there was one dangerous part. Sunrise over San Francisco Bay After my very early morning in San Francisco, I started moving my way further up the mountain. The orientation of the bridges kept changing relative to one another with Oakland in the background. Once I got up high enough, I affixed the 28-300mm to the body, zoomed in, and got this shot.I was lucky that the morning mist/fog gave a nice sheen to everything. I kind of wish I lived in SF. San Francisco Golden Gate by Night I’d had a very long day up at the TWIT studios with Leo Laporte and gang, where I recorded TWIT Photo and MacBreak Weekly recently. After all that, I drove down south to find a place in Sausalito for the night with Tom. We planned on waking up early the next morning for photos. Oak on Winter Sunrise I hiked through a frost-covered meadow in the morning to get up under this tree. And it was one of those meadows with very long grasses that formed little frosty mounds. They gave way with each step with the sound of a tiny crunch that spring back up after you pass. But the moisture is so light and cool, it is not even noticed until you look down and see your shoes have a slick coating of their own.I then got up underneath this old oak tree with my wide-angle lens, aiming it in the direction of the rising sun. Little Church in Yosemite While in the meadows between the mountains of Yosemite, I did not expect to see this little church.And waiting for the right kind of light was another challenge. The light down in the valley is so strange. The sheer walls of the mountains on both sides are so steep that the sun disappears quite early in the day. Yosemite Valley View My first trip to Yosemite was so fun!I've been to Yellowstone about a dozen times, so it was strange never to have a trip to Yosemite under my belt. I think this is my favorite image of San Francisco I've ever taken. It wasn't terribly difficult. The hike was pretty short, even though there was one dangerous part. The only other hard part, I suppose, was planning the day/night before so I could stay in Sausalito and wake up early for a quick jaunt over to this area.
