The Huge Earthen Arch People are always suspiciously good at these photo mysteries… we will see how long this one takes. So where was this photo taken? There’s not a lot of clues here, other than you can see the enormity of this limestone formation. I’m also interested to hear your guesses!- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
The Underwater Cave of Mystery This is a very cool place! There are a thousand boulders that are stacked up all over The Baths area of Virgin Gorda. The beaches are actually separated where the boulders get really intense. This is one of those areas, and to get here, you have to duck and shimmy and slide around. Once you are here, however, you can wade deep into this cave and into other underwater caves beyond.- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
Swimming Through the Grotto The swimming pool at the Aulani (a Disney hotel) on Oahu is pretty incredible. I only saw the place at night, so I’m not sure how it looks during the day. But it looks like it was designed just so that it would look awesome at night! It’s attached to one of those lazy rivers that bends around this way and that. I do like lazy rivers, but I don’t like all the Disney lifeguards watching me on every bend. What if I want a little lazy-river privacy? Well, I guess there’s no need for that with kids about and such.- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
The Magical CaveThe Baths on Virgin Gorda are filled with many tiny little caves here and there. For some, you have to crawl through sand or swim to get there. This one was one of the tightest and one of the most awesome! I thought it would be a great place to take a photo… I first went inside here with Justin Troupe and it was so awesome, I decided to return inside with my camera!Because the light levels were so extreme in here, I went with a 7-exp shot in this situation.- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the entire post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
The Grotto This is Hamilton Pool, one of the best kept secrets in Austin. The preserve’s pool and grotto were formed when the dome of an underground river collapsed thousands of years ago. There is a ring of 45-foot waterfalls all around the rim. Flow was light this day, but you can still see a few streams of water coming down.- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
Hindu Ascent This is a 94-year-old woman ascending the final stairs in the 272-step ascent in the Batu Caves, a pilgrimage site in Malaysia for over 800,000 Hindus per year. Her hair is 3 meters long (about 9 feet). She has never cut it her entire life. It is so long, she has to fold it back and forth a few times and wrap it to keep it from dragging behind.- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
Across the Line I found this guy in the Batu Caves just outside of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The Batu Caves are enormous caverns that hold various Hindu temples and plenty of fruit for monkeys. This was shot after a quarter-mile spelunk through the cave and an emergence into a geological oddity – a shaft of sunlight shining downwards through an open chamber that had been carved through the limestone after centuries of rainfall. The day was bright and sunny, and the monkey sat alone in front of the inky blackness of the cave entrance. This was shot as a single RAW photo. It only had minor HDR adjustments, to get the texture in the wall and the details in his fur.- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
