Brushing a Miniature Horse We took another trip out to Kerry & Simon Brackstone’s farm in Gibbston with the kids. My two girls, Isabella and Scarlett, love that miniature horse! They spent a very long time brushing it… apparently this is something that all little girls enjoy doing. We always hold this out as a carrot for them if they are being good, and they they can hold out a carrot for the miniature horse, and it will be a neverending circle of carrot-based incentives. - Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
The Dance Recital
I feel like I go to about 20 dance recitals a year! If you have a daughter in dance, then you know what I mean. This was a cold one, and I mean supa-cold. It was about 20 degrees outside, and then recital was, for some reason, outside. I was going to go sit down and cover up, but the blanket was only big enough for the rest of the family. So I decided to keep moving and take a lot of photos. I went back behind the crowd to get this one just before the show began...- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post, including my thoughts about dance recital photography policies, at the Stuck in Customs blog.
The Cheerful Austin Christmas Dragon
It was a great PhotoWalk in Austin last night! Remember to tag your photos with #gplusaustin -- and click around to see some stuff. We had over 100 sign up on plancast, and it got pretty crazy because a lot of people brought friends and family. It was a lot of fun to meet people.

We had one guy come in from South Africa, a gal Karen Hutton come in from California, and many more from all around the Texas area. Everyone we very nice and fun as usual.

I had an autographed 2012 calendar to give away, but I forgot! Sorry that was lame of me... I had it on the floorboard of my car and everything, but with getting the kids out and everything, I forgot - you know how it is.

The Amazing FAO Schwarz While I was in New York City for the big book party, we took some time out for shopping! This is the famous FAO Schwarz, which holds a special place in the hearts of many people. I'm sure at one point, you could call it the greatest toy store in the world. I'm sure other places hold that title now. In fact, I think I heard about FAO going bankrupt or something a few years back? I can't remember... but, either way, the store was still alive and hopping while we were there!I figured this is most certainly the kind of place you cannot use a tripod, which made me determined to use a tripod. I quickly set up on the second floor after surveying the whole store for about 30 minutes, looking for the most interesting vantage. I quickly extended the tripod, fired away, and then retracted back into stealth-mode.- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
The Magic of Disney's Main Street at Night Disney after dark is very cool... All the lights change and it comes alive even more, if possible. One trick that I have picked up is the essential nap while at Disneyworld for the entire family. We head back to the room after a busy morning and a carbo-bloat lunch for a family nap. It keeps everyone sane. And then, we can all stay up late with minimal chance of breakdown. Seeing kids breakdown at Disneyworld is just not right... it's not so Disney...- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
The Sunset of Your Childhood Haven't your memories always been a little better than reality? That's why reality kind of sucks sometimes (!) and it's fun to escape into our mind's eye. This is what I try to achieve through this medium. I also try to achieve it in real life, where it often fails in spectacularly sad ways. But maybe our memories are better than we give ourselves credit for. Here I was in Disney World, as young as ever, and seeing this real place with these real colors and tones. I don't paint over these photos...all these colors are really there, and they are the same ones that are mapped into your brain for all time. As you all know, I contend that many of us remember in HDR...- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
