Horse in Landscape Remember what I said a few days ago about reasons for no stopping for almost every horse photo in Iceland? Forget I said that. I don't know what I was talking about. Go ahead and stop... I mean, how on earth can you pass this buy? These horses remind me a bit of the sirens in Odysseus, distracting me from my destination... But, really, that analogy falls apart because I had no destination in mind, so I allow myself plenty of wonderful distractions.- Trey RatcliffRead more here at the Stuck in Customs blog.
The Beautiful Space Shuttle Blooms Inside a Cloud As soon as the Endeavour worm-holed into the cloud layer, the strange staccato-bass of torn air came skipping across the water into the press area. The sound was not at all what I expected, but it was awesome dot com. - Trey Ratcliff Read more here at stuckincustoms.com.
Approaching the Ranch This photo is a new one from just on the north side of Yellowstone. I took it just after one of those afternoon thunderstorms that sometimes pass across the countryside. This path was made by many years of horse-drawn wagons. There's a ranch out this way, and motorized cars are forbidden... so it took a long time to make these tracks.- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
The Endless Rows of Arlington Cemetery Not too far from the capitol in DC is the sprawling expanse of Arlington Cemetery. It is a very somber place... It was just my son and I, walking around for quite a while together. I think it all made an impression on him.We stayed so long into the evening -- we were the last ones there! Except for the security guards, who walked with us as we were leaving, since they locked up behind us. It was nice, however -- they took their time and let me set up for a few final shots with the tripod as the light was falling behind the storm clouds.- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
A Giraffe on the Savannah Our giant reticulated friend, unable to articulate, was forced to gesticulate in the most ridiculous manner.- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
The Atomic Explosion and Mushroom Fallout at Sunset If you want to see how I made this (and how you can too!), visit my HDR Tutorial. I hope it gives you some new tricks!I think about all the sunsets I miss. I always seem to be out and about somewhere, noticing a great sunset whilst noticing that I am not even close to my camera and tripod. It's just unacceptable! This day and evening I was in Yellowstone alone. I had just seen a grizzly bear and a black bear about 30 minutes before this shot, both of which are pretty rare to see. They went on their way and I was left in the middle of this area with just a few elk meandering a few hundred feet from me. I tried to not get overly "sucked into" the sunset, trying to remember those bears that were lurking about. The ground was pretty marshy here, so I was not in optimal conditions for running from a bear.- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
The Arenal Volcanic Plume I took this one from about 10 km from the west side of the dam that forms lake Arenal at the base of the volcano. I had the tripod set up for several hours trying to wait for the clouds to arrange themselves in the right way. The good thing was that it was so windy the whole scene changed every five minutes.- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
The Lonely Trinity It must gave been a five hour drive from one end of Montana to another. After just a bit, you get mesmerized by the wheat fields.Driving along, I always start to play games with the clouds and the objects on the horizon. This might sound strange, but I do enjoy seeing them in Euclidean geometric formations... so much so, that I had to jump out of the car to capture this.- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
