The Tetons, Revisited This area is not too far from Yellowstone. Just outside of the south exit, there is a fairly short drive to this area of Wyoming. It's on the way to Jackson Hole. This is also an amazing place if you are into Bison. There are hundreds and hundred of bison in this area. A free one was roaming about while I took this. They're actually quite dangerous for something that looks like a giant silly stuffed animal.- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
Horses on an Evening Meadow Every night before sunset, the horses would be let out of the corral for a bit of "personal" time. They spent almost no time at all on the Internet, and, instead, just meandered around this grassy meadow at the ranch. The grass looks nice eh? And there was no lawn-mowing necessary. - Trey Ratcliff Read the rest, including a discussion on some Topaz issues, here.
About to Explore Milford Sound Milford Sound was one of the three places that everyone in New Zealand told me I had to visit. And after arriving there, I'm glad I did! It was a bit foggy and cloudy while I was there, but it made for a nice mood. The light rain would get a bit annoying on the lens, but we all learn to deal with these little bummer things that happen. Nothing is perfect and nothing is easy... - Trey Ratcliff Read the rest of this entry here.
Into the Sea I wonder what percentage of photographers live on the West Coast versus the East Coast. Of course, the west gets all the great sunsets over the ocean, and the east gets all the great sunrises. Given that most sane people are asleep at sunrise, and given that most photographers are insane -- I am not sure! - Trey Ratcliff Read the rest at the Stuck in Customs blog.
Another Beautiful California Night Here is photo from the very fun and engaging Photowalk in San Clemente, California. Do you guys know who David Arkenstone is? He's a musician that has done a few songs I'm sure you've heard ... Secret Meetings in Hollywood This photo was taken in Los Angeles (Santa Monica to be exact) after I got finished with one of those Hollywood Power-Lunches you always hear about. I'm not yet ready to talk about it... but I just wanted to put out a little teaser for you. I'll be sure to put out the full story when it is ready to be told. So, anyway, after the meeting I took my camera and tripod across a few streets over to the beach. I'm not sure, but I'm fairly certain this is where they filmed the opening to Three's Company. It's burned into some deep layer... strange bits of my 70's brain were firing away as I was walking down the coast. The palm trees and the blue sky -- they were so LA -- so I set up to grab a shot.- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
Beyond the Dome This was one of those perfect days where I woke up and had no real responsibilities. I was able to drive aimlessly around Yellowstone to explore places I had never been. I took the road up north and went down as many side-roads as I could. After a bit of driving, and listening to some good audio books, I found this remarkable place.I have a bunch of other images from Yellowstone. As always, you can just click on that link or the category at the bottom to see more from that location.- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
The Dock to Forever One of the advantages of going down all the side roads is that you get to find cool places! After leaving Nelson on the South Island, we found a little lake on the map that looked about perfect. After a few hours of meandering, we discovered this place was almost completely empty (just like every place else on the South Island!). Even better, there was a perfect little dock jutting out into the lake.I first took a bunch of shots with my 14-24mm lens... but it was not really getting the dock with the distant valley in the right way. So, I put on my 70-200mm, zoomed in almost all the way, then backed up quite a bit to get the compression effect of the valley. Remind me to post the other version someday so you can see the comparison! I haven't processed it yet -- but it is in my "Pile to Process" -- which is now 22,000 strong.- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
The Lonely but Beautiful Path I have a lot of alone time. When I am out shooting, I am totally in my own world. In fact, I'm even double-in-my-own-world because I have my iPod on and I drift away into pure right-brain mode. It's quite nice, in a way, because I do achieve a zen-like peace where time does not matter.I've worked with a few photographers that will copy and paste a sky from one photo and put it into another photo. I don't do that stuff - that is waaaay too much editing for me. All the clouds and colors you see are true and wonderfully there. I even sat with a guy once who would take a perfect moon out of one photo and paste it into another! I simply can't bring myself to do anything like that... it's just too over-the-top!Anyway, I hope you enjoy this new photo from Florida... I've got some more beautiful ones coming up in the next week, so stay tuned!- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
