Snow over the Creek There is a place called Pyramid Lake just past Glenorchy that is perfectly wonderful in the winter as long as you have the traction. This shot is from the end of last winter when I caught a little bit of snow. You’ll notice I don’t have a ton of snowy shots from NZ yet, but I think I’ll get a lot more this winter. I’m really looking forward to some good snowfalls, in fact! The Ice Bar, Below Zero We ran around all week preparing for the event here in Queenstown. We took a break to go visit the famous Ice Bar with Eden Brackstone. Just beforehand, he had met Karen Hutton, Scott Kublin, and Curtis Simmons on the rainy streets after a chocolate blow-out at Patagonia (none of this sounds like we are actually working does it?).Anyway, the Ice Bar was very cool. The Cool Fresh Water This is maybe some of the freshest water I’ve ever had! The Polar Extremes I’ve never been all the way to the North Pole or South Pole. I am curious, but I don’t think I’m into the extreme cold. Also, there doesn’t seem to be a lot of good photo ops for all the trouble you have to go through. So, anyway, this is about the closest I have gotten, up at the northernmost tip of the Northwest Fjordland of Iceland. Tableau Vivant Of Wild HorsesIt was about 2 A.M. and the sun was just dipping into the horizon for a short stint. These horses were frolicking about in a huge flat field a bit inland from the end of the fjord. They were all so lively and alert, jumping and posing here and there. Yosemite in Late AfternoonI spent about a week in Yosemite, and every day had slightly different light. I was quite sad there was no snow the entire time, but I am excited to go back and see it!Even though there was no snow, I was quite cold. I tried out a new set of gloves which were quite crappy. I think the only kind of situation I like when it is cold is those mittens that flip up so I can use my fingers. The Dance Recital I feel like I go to about 20 dance recitals a year! If you have a daughter in dance, then you know what I mean.This was a cold one, and I mean supa-cold. It was about 20 degrees outside, and then recital was, for some reason, outside. I was going to go sit down and cover up, but the blanket was only big enough for the rest of the family. So I decided to keep moving and take a lot of photos. The Beginning of Time I spent most of a weekend working on this photo. One common question is, "How long do these photos take?" They take me anywhere from a few minutes to a few days. It's not contiguous work, of course, but some are so challenging that I have to keep returning to them time and time again.This spot in northern central Iceland is a bit perilous to reach. It's so perilous here at Godafoss, in fact, that I am glad my mom didn't see me getting into position. Is the water cold?
