A Weaving Path Through the Wetlands I’ve revisited this path in Glenorchy a few times now. You’ll see this in the new New Zealand video that is available now, by the way. I took a ton of different photos while there, but this one did not look so great in color. It was curious to me because there was something about the photo that I liked… but it looked so dull in color. And then I realized it was the shape and the contrast that was most interesting! So I decided to emphasize that with the black and white treatment using Silver Efex Pro.- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
Sydney Harbour Under Mountains of Clouds This might have been the last shot I took with my Nikon D800 before the wind blew it over to destroy it. It turned out that I could not repair it, so I had to buy another D800. Sad Trey. I hope the shot was worth it… many Bothans died to bring you this photo… :)- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
A Moving Sunset When the sun started going down in Milford Sound, I figured I was going to start using up a lot of memory cards. I’m still using those RAW Steel cards that are 16GB each. The D800 has been filling up my cards pretty quickly, so I’ve been thinking about upgrading to 32GB. But I already have a load of 16GB and swapping isn’t that much of a pain… maybe I should just wait until I need the 64GB some day… if ever.- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
Meditation It's sort of hard to find time to meditate nowadays, eh? I mean, there is a lot of stuff going on. I wonder if the old-school Buddhists would be as good at meditating if they had broadband. It's quite easy to distract yourself online. By the way, I'd like to take this opportunity to thank you for distracting yourself with the blog! I guess I'm happy to be a source of distraction for you. And, should you find the inspiration to meditate a little, maybe this shot from Siem Reap, Cambodia will help.- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
Exploring the Valleys Beyond the Fjords of Akureyri I had always wanted to visit fjords ever since reading The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy as a kid... picturing Slartibartfast carving them up was something that always stuck in my mind. The first ones I got to visit were in Iceland after I went up north to stay in Akureyri for a few days. I had actually intended to go one place that my friend Helga suggested, but I ended up getting lost, which is okay enough. This fjord valley kept going and going as the sun started to rise over the edges. I pulled over every few miles whenever the moment seemed right to shoot, and it seemed right so often!- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
The Sacred Heart of Paris This is the Sacred Heart Church that sits high on a hill in a very artsy area of Paris. Actually, all of Paris seems artsy to me. I've always wondered what it would be like to be a "full time artist" living in Paris. Wouldn't that be just about the coolest thing in the world? Or maybe you would become spoiled in just a short while and take it all for granted. It's very hard to empathize or sympathize with any mystical miserables that might be in that situation.Trey's Tip: I usually take these with a single RAW, but I kind of like the motion in these people... on occasion it seems okay to me, like here.- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
The Forgotten This was brought up in the chat session yesterday -- Black and White HDRs! Yes, they are possible, and they are a lot of fun! I don't do it that much because I am so in love with vibrant colors.. but sometimes, on a lark, I'll do it. The one below, of a forgotten temple in Cambodia, is a simple black and white with a bit of a sepia tone. Enjoy!- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
