Trees in Yosemite I’m not really an “expert” on Yosemite by any means! I’ve only been there once, and I know there are many photographers that have been there 5 or 10 or more times! I spent most of my time driving around the main roads and going off on little mini-hikes. But I didn’t really know the best places to go… so I would hike along little creeks and get shots like this.I remember I did a little walk to a place called “Mirror Lake” or something. It sounded so awesome from the name! But then I got there, and it was just a puddle of ice. I felt ripped off! They should change the name of it every hour depending on what it currently looks like. Walking in Yosemite Here’s a photo from a walk along this beautiful little path in Yosemite. It looks very serene and welcoming, yes? Well it is! I was sad I only got to spend one day here in the forest… I’d like to go back. Actually, I’d really like to get to Yosemite when it is snowing. Brushing a Miniature Horse We took another trip out to Kerry & Simon Brackstone’s farm in Gibbston with the kids. My two girls, Isabella and Scarlett, love that miniature horse! They spent a very long time brushing it… apparently this is something that all little girls enjoy doing. The Blue of Lake Pukaki This is the view that you get on the way to Mt. Cook. It was my first time going there… and I was so happy to see the amazing color of the water! I don’t know if it is like this all the time, but I figure it is. I’m about to go for a second trip, so I will report back soon!There are many places to stop along the road to get this shot. Driving Home… As you approach Lake Tekapo from the East, you pass through an interesting set of geology. The mountains are rolling one second and ragged the next. I’ve noticed that some days also feature very strange light patterns, with heavy clouds overhead while shafts of evening light slice through and light up parts of the hills. Evening on the blue Lake Tekapo Yes, these blues are real!I’ve gotten tens of thousands of messages from people that say that New Zealand is in their plans to visit in the near future, and when you visit this area, you’ll see how crazy the colors really are. Louis and the Ferris Wheel I always wanted a good ferris wheel shot! It’s surprisingly hard to shoot these things. You would assume that it’s just a slam dunk with a long exposure and spinning lights… but it’s not that easy! The Castle Crackled with Magic as its Gods Held Lightning, Ready to Smite Down the Non-believers Is there anything cooler than the old architecture throughout Europe? I say there is not.In this upcoming article that I’m working on for Smashing Magazine, I mention a membrane between fantasy and reality, and, for whatever reason, seeing things like this help me drift back and forth between what is real and what is not real. I know critics typically get caught up in reality; I get caught up in fantasy.
