Swimming Through the Grotto The swimming pool at the Aulani (a Disney hotel) on Oahu is pretty incredible. I only saw the place at night, so I’m not sure how it looks during the day. But it looks like it was designed just so that it would look awesome at night! It’s attached to one of those lazy rivers that bends around this way and that. I do like lazy rivers, but I don’t like all the Disney lifeguards watching me on every bend. What if I want a little lazy-river privacy? Well, I guess there’s no need for that with kids about and such.- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
The Sphere of Influence I thought this sphere was so unusual when I saw it the first time. There’s a radar under there, but the design of the housing is pretty cool and modern… And it sits in the middle of an awesome adults-only swimming pool on the front of the Disney Fantasy… very cool.- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
The Towering ShipsSo I got down to the end of the pier and aimed the 14-24 pretty high. There’s no way to get around the “leaning lines” — but that all adds to the overall effect. And, believe, me, standing down there, you feel the immense weight of them all about to topple over.If you look up at the Disney Fantasy on the right, you can see where the waterslide juts off the edge of the ship…- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the entire post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
Swabbing the DecksThe Disney Cruise aboard the Fantasy had deck after deck after deck – something was always happening – everywhere! It was pretty stimulating as a photographer to try to figure out where to be at different times. This is the deck where the running track is. It goes around the outside of the ship, and I like to run so I was out there almost every day. I noticed around a certain time that these guys come out in yellow outfits to swab them down. So I made a point to get out there the next day and set up for this image.- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the entire post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
On Top of the Disney Fantasy This was my first Disney cruise, so I don’t know if I was lucky with the clouds, or if they are usually full of oceanic-drama. I know some of you in the audience are big ocean-sailing-boat people, so you would know… What you see here is one of the “Adult Only” areas of the ship. I was surprised that there were many of these areas spread around, and at least three pools just for grown-ups. It was a nice surprise! - Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
Trey Ratcliff - NEX7- Disney Final Day (417 of 549)
Indy via Sony NEX-7
The new review is up! See the Sony NEX-7 Review.I bought one a few weeks ago and have been using it quite a bit. I really like the camera! This is a scene from the Indiana Jones Show at Disneyworld. I was sitting back in the audience, and I used the kit lens to zoom all the way in as close as I could. I could crop and still get an image that was 5200 pixels across!Since I was able to take so many photos so quickly, I was able to pluck out the frame that had the most interesting action -- when the big German guy flipped up Indy into the air...- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of the post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
I zoomed in with the kit lens to get this shot. I was sitting back in the audience about 200 feet away, so I could not quite get in tight enough. But thanks to the 24 megapixels, I was still able to crop in to get a clean shot.
