The Dramatic Chateau I took photos of this side of the chateau twice. Once in the morning when the clouds were heavy, and once again in the afternoon when the clouds parted. I ended up liking this cloudy one better. The New Garden Path Along the Great Wall of China Just to get to this point required a long walk through a rocky forest. It wasn’t like the super-pristine part of the Great Wall (which is actually quite fake and Disney-like) — where you can drive up in a huge tour bus and park in huge parking lot. No, it wasn’t like that at all. Instead, there was a “path” that was barely discernable (much less so when I walked back in the dark alone!) that wove up through a forest along an old creekbed. Fun with the Fisheye in Paris This is a close up of one of the two chandeliers in the entry way of my hotel in Paris. I was still getting used to the fisheye at this point, so it took me about five shots to get this exact one I wanted.By the way, I like how Paris likes to fill “empty space” with red velvet. Frogs in the Paris Opera Can someone explain this to me? I cannot figure it out. Maybe they are just being quirky.I took this with a fisheye lens inside the Paris opera. I can’t imagine what the internal bureaucracy is like within the Paris Opera for various art displays inside. And I can’t figure out how this one got through. The Towering Medieval Hotel I’m sure Europeans find this kind of architecture to be quaint and banal, but I rather like it. In fact, I’d say it’s just about one of my favorites! Whenever I see old buildings in this style, it makes me a little bit happy.This one was in the village of Mont Saint Michel. It was one of very few hotels that are tightly woven into the old medieval walled complex. Old Londontown Here’s a fun photo I took while crossing the bridge on the way to Westminster Abbey. You’ll also notice it as one of the main shots featured in that video we put up on the StuckInCustoms YouTube video.A big reason I ended up tilting the photo wasn’t just to be quirky or artsy or whatever, but I felt like I really wanted that cool light fixture in the photo without losing balance. A normal shot ends up with the light and abbey quite prominent, but a lot of “dead space” in the upper left. Old Boats in the Afternoon Maybe I arrived in the low part of the tourist season, but I rarely saw these boats out and about on the river. They were always tied up here on the dockside. This was good for me, since it allowed many easy shots after I got around all the slippery bits. BTW, if you are by a dock in a small town in China, and the dock looks slippery, well it probably is SUPER SLIPPERY. Fisheye in the Hotel Banke I was very happy to experiment with the fisheye lens while I was in Paris. I borrowed Tom’s, and that pushed me over the edge to buying one for myself. Prior to this, I had rented one, but never really liked it very much.
