Snow over the Creek There is a place called Pyramid Lake just past Glenorchy that is perfectly wonderful in the winter as long as you have the traction. This shot is from the end of last winter when I caught a little bit of snow. You’ll notice I don’t have a ton of snowy shots from NZ yet, but I think I’ll get a lot more this winter. I’m really looking forward to some good snowfalls, in fact! The Ice Bar, Below Zero We ran around all week preparing for the event here in Queenstown. We took a break to go visit the famous Ice Bar with Eden Brackstone. Just beforehand, he had met Karen Hutton, Scott Kublin, and Curtis Simmons on the rainy streets after a chocolate blow-out at Patagonia (none of this sounds like we are actually working does it?).Anyway, the Ice Bar was very cool. Don’t Worry Mom – The Roads in Iceland Aren’t That Bad I drove up to the extreme north of Iceland yesterday to do some serious exploration. I told my mom not to worry… the roads are not too bad. The Geothermal Genie Thanks for all my fans and all the nice comments/emails - I know I have a bunch of unique and interesting people that come to the site!So as for this picture... I've never been one of those people that can easily see shapes in clouds. Nor am I one of those people that can pass a Rorschach Test without being immediately thrown in jail for something I might have done.But in this picture, I think I see a genie coming out of that geothermal vent. Ice Skating at Rockefeller Center After I went to the top, I visited the bottom of Rockefeller center, where the famous ice-skating rests. The Secret Underground of Iceland It was about 5 in the morning in Reykjavik and I was colder than any human is supposed to be, but I had my coffee and tripod and was on a mission to catch the sunrise. On Frozen Pond I probably should not have been standing in the middle of this frozen pond, but when you are raised in Texas and you rarely get to see anything frozen, you get fascinated by large frozen bodies of water. I just stared at it for a long time like a deer that's never seen headlights in the forest. I felt the saying, "When in Rome", and somehow replaced it with "When in Reykjavik..." I slowly shuffled my feet out to the middle, using my tripod as an Imperial Hoth Walker to secure my footing. The Massive Glacier at Dusk This is the Perito Moreno Glacier that empties into Lago Argentina. It was simply awesome to be there, as you can plainly see.I was there with a bunch of Russians who had brought an insane amount of cognac. Between shots, they would all drink cognac, yell, and try to bring down the next ice wall.
