A Reflective Morning in Milford Sound After sleeping in my sleeping bag all night, a 6 AM wake up time was a little bit rough. The rough part was the cold that quickly cut through to my bones when I got out. Usually I get dressed inside the tent, but, being tentless, I had no other options. I guess I could have gotten dressed inside the sleeping bag, but that would have been a little bit strange and difficult. Plus, from the outside, I would have looked like I was going through some metamorphosis. - Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
The Third Tree When you have three tree photos that you adore, how can you choose an order in which to publish them? I don’t know! I figured that if I love all of them, then random is a good an order as necessary. I go through various levels of this every night when I put together the daily post for the next day. The selection process is fairly mentally grueling! :)- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the entire post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
What the Ancient Seamariners Saw Imagine seeing this if you were one of the great sea explorers of yore! This is the entrance to Milford Sound from the Tasman Sea. It would have been so amazing to come across this and wonder what it was like up inside the fjord. And then, the captain could just decide to sail up inside and land some boats on the shore. Maybe if they were a little hungry, they could even grab a few Moas and cook ‘em up. After a long sea voyage, nothing goes down smoother than a Moa.- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
My Kea Camper on the South IslandThis was one of the prettiest parts of the drive to Milford Sound. You can’t miss it. You CAN miss a lot of things down there, but not if you are right along this main road. This is probably one of the most majestic valleys I’ve ever seen. - Trey RatcliffClick here to read the entire post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
Tableau Vivant Of Wild HorsesIt was about 2 A.M. and the sun was just dipping into the horizon for a short stint. These horses were frolicking about in a huge flat field a bit inland from the end of the fjord. They were all so lively and alert, jumping and posing here and there. And then they set up in a very interesting configuration, and I barely had time to put on the right lens before it all drifted apart.- Trey RatcliffRead the entire post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
The Forever CoastOahu looks like such a small island on the map, but the coast seems to go on for ever and ever! We drove around the island in a counter-clockwise manner and popped out of the car from time to time.To get to this spot in particular, Tom and I had to jump over the guard rail and run out onto a little cliff. It was quite high up, so I didn’t get too close to the edge… but the high perspective helped me to aim down along the coast without needing to show the horizon.- Trey RatcliffRead the entire post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
Driving from Petaluma to Napa I've made this trip a few times, but it is usually in the morning and on the way from Napa to Petaluma. This is usually the situation because I stay at my mom's house before going over to do a show with Leo Laporte. This time, it was the opposite (well, kinda... I didn't sleep with Leo), but I did the show first then drove to Napa to have dinner with my mom.Tom was with me, and we were on a sharp lookout for a good sunset situation. While driving by this old barn, I saw a great opportunity, so we got out of the car to get all the equipment ready...- Trey RatcliffRead the rest of the post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
Oahu Vacation Well, it wasn’t really a vacation. It was work. Hard, wet, slogging work. Don’t let this picture fool you. Okay, you can let it fool you a little bit… This is about the only sun I got the whole trip. 90% of it was me being extremely wet and rather physically and emotionally drained. Things were so wet, in fact, that they declared part of Hawaii a disaster area! I was there for about a week with Tom Anderson, and he was so excited to show me his second home… he had big dreams of fancy-free days, taking photos on sunny beaches… be we had very little of that… However, I did my best to produce a lot of images while there… here’s the first one I wanted to share with you.- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
Deep into the Jungle Mists I was many kilometers down this river away from the town. I got off my little boat to do some hiking up through the hills through the jungle. It was dense. Even when there was a little opening, it still felt like leaves and vines were pressing in on me. On occasion, I would see a wider break that let me see into the mysterious beyond.- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
