The Pool at the Traders in Kuala Lumpur This is an open-air area atop a beautiful hotel in KL. There’s an awesome pool and a trendy bar where you can have drinks and watch all sorts of sylph-like Euros make sinuous music-video-like moves in and out of the pool. Sunset Storm over Kuala Lumpur A series of violent storms came through Kuala Lumpur, allowing a few surreal shots of the city. It went from very dark and cloud to torrential downpour to beautiful sunset. It reminded me of the storms on the plains of Texas.Kuala Lumpur is a very interesting city and is quite unique in Asia. I’d love to get up on top of those Petronas Towers there to take some shots, but I look like a suspicious white guy with my huge backpack. An Open Air Lounge in Kuala Lumpur Isn’t this place awesome? It’s a bar on top of a roof of the Trader’s Hotel in Kuala Lumpur. It looks out across the new skyline at the Petronas Towers. Malaysia is a pretty hot and humid country, so sometimes it’s not quite so comfy to sit outside. I don’t like to sit outside in muggy conditions… I just don’t. I remember that I played indoor soccer there in Kuala Lumpur on another night and it was one of my top 10 sweaty nights. Afterward, the only way to cool off was to drink about 128 oz of iced carrot-milk. Blowtorch I understand from my mom that Kuala Lumpur was also one of my grandfather's favorite cities. He used to work for Exxon, back in the middle of the 20th century. It's hard for me to imagine what it looked like back then. It's too bad I wasn't ever able to show him this photo to see his reaction.KL is called one of the Asian "small tigers" because of its booming economy in the last 20 years or so. Many Asian cities are very pretty with unique architecture. Since many of them are so "new", the architecture is often much more modern than their Western counterparts. Ready to Strike I found this guy in some caves just outside of Kuala Lumpur. I've always wanted one for a pet because it is both eccentric and people might mistake me for a bond villain. I understand these can be house-trained even. Well, one of these can be house-trained and the other kind, that looks similar, is quite dangerous and the bacteria in his saliva can kill you. So, since I always get Gila Monsters and Iguanas confused, I never ended up getting one because I would hate to bring home the wrong thing.This was a single-shot HDR. It really helped to bring out all the texture and color in the scales. This is Ranjit Ranjit's dream is that he gets to work in the factory again.Ranjit is currently sitting in front of an old restaurant on the outskirts of Kuala Lumpur. He used to work in a nearby factory, making aluminum parts, but he was replaced after his cataracts got too heavy and he began making mistakes. Ranjit does not like being a burden on his son, who doesn't come to see him much anymore. He says, motioning off into the distance behind me, "The boy is in Putrajaya, living in government house." Hindu Ascent This is a 94-year-old woman ascending the final stairs in the 272-step ascent in the Batu Caves, a pilgrimage site in Malaysia for over 800,000 Hindus per year.Her hair is 3 meters long (about 9 feet). She has never cut it her entire life.
