Wild Horses in Queenstown This is Max Patte’s latest creation. I saw them by accident while I was playing golf at The Hills here. I came over the hill to this little par 3 and I thought they were real! I was so shocked… it was a very strange reaction, actually. I’ll never forget it. It was surreal… and I love that feeling of not knowing if something is real or fantasy, and really getting lost, even if just for a moment.- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
Fishing on Oahu The rugged coasts along Oahu make for some lay-up (as Tom calls them) photos. Everything is quite rugged and dramatic. But, even if it was not for the drama of the scene, I think this fisherman is extra-dramatic! I didn’t see anything actually caught, but I would think it would be some giant dramatic fish.- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
Afternoon at the Chateau Here is one of the many images created during the workshop. I decided I liked this slightly off-center version rather than right down the middle. I loved the one right down the middle too, of course, but just was giving the situation a bit of a curve-ball. The tree branches seemed so interesting to me, and I wanted to accentuate them in post processing so they felt like one hundred little arrows, all pointing at the chateau.- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
The Lost Cliffs of Oahu This is a very very very rare re-processing of a photo! I usually never go back to a work.. so, this is more the exception than the rule. But I started trying a few different things with Photomatix (that you can see in the Photomatix presets at the site), and I just like the overall feel of the photo better than the previous version. I don’t see myself going back to re-do whole swaths of photos… this one just grabbed me for some reason.- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
The Fantasy Bookcase I suppose bookcases will become more an antique in the near future. It’s hard for me to imagine my kids having a lot of bookcases when they get older… the vast majority of everything they read now is on a tablet. I suppose they can have a bookcase with a few tablets in it, but that’s kind of like having a buggy-whip case full of lightsabers.- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
The Paris Underground One evening, we were in a bit of a hurry to get to the Arc de Triomphe for some sunset photos. I still have those photos btw, sitting here unprocessed, and I’m really looking forward to it! Anyway, there were a few of us on this little subway adventure and we had to make one of those long underground connections that requires you to walk for about 5 minutes through jigsawed tunnels. This is one of those tunnels… Matt Knisely and I made everyone wait while we took photos!- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
The Paris Opera I went by this building several times before I even thought about going in. For some reason, it never occurred to me that I might actually be able to go inside and take photos! Of course, I really wanted to go inside, so I was happy when Curtis told me that it’s no problem to get in there.Next time, I think I’d like to go on a private tour and get some special angles and whatnot. I did get in trouble for using my tripod, but not bad trouble. Just a little trouble. A little trouble ain’t so bad… - Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
The Mysterious Places of Paris Isn’t this room amazing? It’s not in the main part of the Paris Opera House, but it had the most ornate and Inception-esque room I’ve seen in a while. I took this photo while in the middle of experimenting with the Nikon fisheye lens. It seemed to fit the bill for these ornate grand locations that are still in a relatively confined space. - Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
The Amazing Eiffel Tower in Romantic Paris I shot this just recently with Tom Anderson. We almost didn’t leave the hotel because it was so stormy, but we had been watching the clouds all day. We started out with Miss Aniela at the Paris Opera before exploring the rest of the city. Sunset comes early here around this time of the year (about 5 PM or so), and it always sneaks up on us.Some of the best sunsets come right after storms… so it’s always worth a little adventure if you don’t mind getting a little wet… - Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
