A Rainy Scene in Tokyo I stayed here one afternoon for a short bit in the shade. I really liked how everything was wet and the background was a clean white with complex lines all over the place. It’s hard to explain why I liked the feel of this place — I just did. Part of it was that I like the wet, reflective ground without actually needing to stay in the rain. I love a good rain shot, but I hate standing in the rain! The Rainbow Bridge in Tokyo Thank you very much to Takahiro-san for taking us to this place! He took Tom and I here one evening and helped us to find some really interesting angles of this awesome loopty-loop thing. The only way I was able to get the whole thing in was to use the fisheye — see my Nikon 16mm Fisheye review here.One thing that surprised me about this shot was the pattern the lights made on the water very close to me. View from the Google Offices in Downtown Tokyo It was a great event at Google that day and night! After my tech talk, we stayed up in their skyscraper till dark, drinking and eating and taking photos. Luckily, the office windows aim in directly the right direction out of the Roppongi Towers.The windows were all crowded with photographers, and it was a great time. Between shots, I got the chance to talk to a lot of enthusiastic Japanese photographers. I even set up a future-photo-date with the great Takahiro-san… and he would take me to one of his secret bridge locations in Tokyo! The Dramatic Chateau I took photos of this side of the chateau twice. Once in the morning when the clouds were heavy, and once again in the afternoon when the clouds parted. I ended up liking this cloudy one better. Fun with the Fisheye in Paris This is a close up of one of the two chandeliers in the entry way of my hotel in Paris. I was still getting used to the fisheye at this point, so it took me about five shots to get this exact one I wanted.By the way, I like how Paris likes to fill “empty space” with red velvet. Another Bridge in Melbourne I like these cities that get all fancy with their bridges. Melbourne certainly does! Each bridge tries to out-do the next. There’s no common theme and its sort of a mish-mash of styles, to say the least. I think that not everyone likes this, but I do. I don’t mind all the variety, especially from the perspective of photography.It’s kind of the same way with the buildings and other decorative elements around downtown Melbourne. There are so many styles, most of which are one flavor of “modern” or “contemporary”. I enjoy mixing and matching different elements into compositions, but it is not easy. Awesome Ship in Sydney Harbor Tom and I walked down to the Rocks one night, which is one of the oldest parts of the Sydney Harbor. I was wondering, actually, if I should spell it “harbour” now that I live down thisaway. I do like the British spellings of things… they seem so much more… well, British and sophisticated. I guess I’ll just stick with “harbor” – I don’t want people thinking I’ve turned native so quickly.Anyway, the ship was moving a lot in the sea, so I had my ISO up pretty high to compensate. Frogs in the Paris Opera Can someone explain this to me? I cannot figure it out. Maybe they are just being quirky.I took this with a fisheye lens inside the Paris opera. I can’t imagine what the internal bureaucracy is like within the Paris Opera for various art displays inside. And I can’t figure out how this one got through. The Amazing Bridge in Sydney I think I took this during the Sydney photowalk – I am not sure! But those clouds seem very familiar. I took So Many Photos in Sydney… thousands… and I’ve processed hundreds so far. But I just can’t remember exactly when I took this one! Maybe someone from Sydney can confirm that I took this that evening.I really wanted to get up there on the bridge, but they don’t let you take your camera, which is a real bummer. I wish I could get special permission some time.
