Another Bridge in Melbourne I like these cities that get all fancy with their bridges. Melbourne certainly does! Each bridge tries to out-do the next. There’s no common theme and its sort of a mish-mash of styles, to say the least. I think that not everyone likes this, but I do. I don’t mind all the variety, especially from the perspective of photography.It’s kind of the same way with the buildings and other decorative elements around downtown Melbourne. There are so many styles, most of which are one flavor of “modern” or “contemporary”. I enjoy mixing and matching different elements into compositions, but it is not easy. La Défense in Paris The new, modern downtown area of Paris is certainly worth a trip! It’s just 20 minutes through the subway to emerge into this area. I never really wanted to go down here, even though I kept hearing good things about it. To me, it wasn’t really Paris, you know… modern buildings and all. But, once I got down here, I was very excited. The Internal Weather System This is another view inside the cavernous symphony hall in Beijing. The place is so enormous that you can see the beginnings of little clouds inside when the lights move a certain way. I actually think only part of it is related to the size – the other part is related to the awful pollution all around Beijing. There is so much particulate in the air, and it fills up inside big places like this. San Francisco in the Fog SF would not be the same without the fog, would it? It’s part of the city, like the wind in Chicago. But the wind in Chicago kinda sucks, so I guess that is a bad analogy. Maybe a better one is it’s like the water in Venice or the neon in Vegas.I took this photo from the top of Twin Peaks with a 28-300mm lens. I think it’s probably the best spot to take this photo because of the black background behind the bridge. If you shoot it from the other side, then you get the city behind it. The Carrier I've been wanting to process this photo forever -- I love carriers. This one is open to the public, but I arrived too late to get up on the deck... Boston at Sunset Boston is great and I am sad I've only spent a short amount of time there. On this evening, I walked along the waterfront here to look at all the various angles and light levels. The Beautiful Beijing Airport This is a place where I never had trouble with a tripod. I didn't need any special permission... everyone just left me alone. I think that in China everyone is basically scared to death of the authorities, so this means the authorities don't really need to do much in the way of diligent "enforcement." And, there seemed to be no rules against photography, so it was easy to go hog-wild in this beautiful airport.This is another good reason to take your tripod with you on the plane... If it is checked down below, then there's nothing to do but eat Chili's Express or, the Chinese equivalent, KFC Express. The Pool at the Traders in Kuala Lumpur This is an open-air area atop a beautiful hotel in KL. There’s an awesome pool and a trendy bar where you can have drinks and watch all sorts of sylph-like Euros make sinuous music-video-like moves in and out of the pool. Dinner at the Post Ranch Inn This is the second photo I have released from the Post Ranch Inn (first one here). It's such a beautiful place, and, while not exploring the property, we were busy looking forward to a great dinner. Just outside the restaurant is this earthy sculpture and waterfall. It was very nice the way the evening light came and refracted through the water...
