My Kea Camper on the South IslandThis was one of the prettiest parts of the drive to Milford Sound. You can’t miss it. You CAN miss a lot of things down there, but not if you are right along this main road. This is probably one of the most majestic valleys I’ve ever seen. - Trey RatcliffClick here to read the entire post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
Horse in Landscape Remember what I said a few days ago about reasons for no stopping for almost every horse photo in Iceland? Forget I said that. I don't know what I was talking about. Go ahead and stop... I mean, how on earth can you pass this buy? These horses remind me a bit of the sirens in Odysseus, distracting me from my destination... But, really, that analogy falls apart because I had no destination in mind, so I allow myself plenty of wonderful distractions.- Trey RatcliffRead more here at the Stuck in Customs blog.
Big Sur Sunset
Last week I promised I would reveal the photo today that I took during the video above, and here it is.

I guess you can get the sense from that video how windy it was! What a crazy day... I spent all afternoon and evening getting ready for this. There was a decent amount of hiking, preparation, and walking-around to figure out the best place to stand.

Maybe the bad thing about that video is showing how easy it all appears to be... in future videos, you may see some more of the problems that I face and how I deal with them. In some ways, I think that is more real than something that appears to fairy-book perfect!

Dinner at the Post Ranch Inn
This is the second photo I have released from the Post Ranch Inn (first one here). It's such a beautiful place, and, while not exploring the property, we were busy looking forward to a great dinner. Just outside the restaurant is this earthy sculpture and waterfall. It was very nice the way the evening light came and refracted through the water... I don't think I've ever been able to watch the sunset through a sheet of water, so it was quite nice.

The Black Rock

When I was in Big Sur spending a few days at the Post Ranch Inn, one of the places I wanted to visit was this amazing beach not too far from there. I planned on getting there early so I would have time to set up. We got there a little too early, and the sun was too high in the sky. But we still took time to check out the scene. It was hellishly windy, but I did grab a this shot below before we retreated to a nearby cafe to get some hot chocolate before returning for the sunset. The sunset gave us some amazing light for a crazy ocean sunset, but I'll save that for a future day....

The Post Ranch Inn at Dusk How awesome is this room? Each of the rooms here at the Post Ranch Inn (nice time-lapse on that website, eh?) are cool, so I don't think this one was special in that regard. In fact, I have another photo I processed last night of one of the little tree-house-rooms I saw on the way to dinner. I'll post that one soon...Whenever I check into a hotel, I always feel like a dork because I say, "Hello, you don't know me but I'm a photographer, so having a really good view at sunrise is important." I don't think this ever amounts to a hill of beans, except for here! The nice lady that set me up said that the mountain-view had the best light for photography. She said this with such authority that I did not question it! And she was right...I took this one evening at dusk before walking up the path to an amazing dinner. - Trey Ratcliff Read more here at www.stuckincustoms.com.
Off the PCH at Sunset Whenever I go to California lately, I have meetings in both Los Angeles and San Francisco. Rather than fly between the two, I like to take my time and drive up the Pacific Coast Highway. It's such a famous highway, but it's usually fairly empty. There is always a beautiful sunset... it's pretty much a guarantee. I popped out of my car and hiked through the brush a bit to grab this one so you can see what it looks like.- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
A Gentle Stream Through New Zealand All this news out of New Zealand is still upsetting. I've got a lot of contacts and friends down there... and I know it's a rough time. Not much I can do... feel a little useless... so about the best I can do is post some serene and gentle photos of the nicer side of nature. I hope all my friends down there find it gets a little easier as the days move forward.- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
The Most Beautiful Road in the World I found it!I've looked at travel guides and driven on a ton of beautiful, scenic roads all over the world, but I think this road to Queenstown (on the way to/from Glenorchy) is the most beautiful in the world. The road winds down one side of a perfect, fjord-like lake, and every few kilometers, the mountain views change dramatically. Depending upon the time of day you travel it, the entire landscape transforms before your eyes.Wonder what it looks like on the other side of the lake? You won't believe that it is in the same place! See this photo called Mountainstorm that I took on a previous trip to this location. It was shot later in the evening, so I wasn't able to properly capture the road that time. What's the prettiest road you have ever found? I've seen conflicting guides of the most beautiful roads in the US... I'm sure everyone has their opinion... I'd love to know what you think!- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
