Under the Bridge in Central Park Here is one of the final images from the second video here. This was shot when I was hanging out with Clayton Morris in New York.- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
Bryant Park in New York City This is where I ended my walk with Luke that night in New York City. It was sort of a lazy, meandering walk… going here and going there. But my hotel was right by this park. I lament that I never got a shot inside the awesome library, but the tripod police were out in full force. I actually felt like I was in more danger there than in the middle of this New York City park in the middle of the night!- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
New York City Bus Here’s one of the first places I stopped during the New York City photowalk. Since I’m not from NYC, I really get excited about all these thing New Yorkers find quite banal. But I saw that big glass surface and all the reflections, so I got in close with the 14-24mm. I had to be fast… these busses don’t wait too long. I was never tempted to actually get in FRONT of the bus, however. I may not be from NYC, but I don’t have a deathwish while taking photos there! :)- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
Bryant Park in New York City I stayed in a cool hotel right next to this park. I’ve forgotten the name, but I found it with Hotel Tonight, which is a really cool iPad app you should get. Even better, the app has a lot of my photography in it… so it is even further recommended! This park is very pretty and relaxing. It’s even busy deep into the night… and, it seems perfectly safe, which is always extra-charming to those of us that are not from New York. Going to a park at night in NYC is supposed to be a very scary thing!- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
Crossing the Street in New York City This photo was taken very nearby the Grand Central Station photo I posted a few days ago. In fact, I think it’s just one block south! While I was taking this, a gentleman-fan of the blog was giving me “that look”. After I was done taking the photo, I beckoned him over to say hello! He was very nice and we had a nice little talk. So, if you ever find yourself in this situation, just come over and say hello – I’m happy for it!- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
The Stars Above Grand Central Station I took this photo a few moments before getting kicked out for using a tripod. They said I could go sign up for a permit, but I told them I could not be bothered. I wasn’t mean about it, just sort of matter-of-fact. I asked if women with strollers needed to get a permit or men with canes, and they said of course not.I would like to make a tripod that attached to a baby stroller. In fact, instead of the baby, I could put all my camera gear down there. So it could be a rolling camera-bag-stroller with tripod attachment. It would look crazy, but it would be kind of awesome too.- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
Inception: New York I took these photos in New York City before going to LA to prepare for Burning Man. I found this spot below in midtown during a walk from Bryant Park over to the Facebook HQ in NYC. If you check my Facebook page, you’ll see some photos that Luke shot of me while I was taking this shot. It’s the one when I was awkwardly up under my camera shooting almost straight up in the air! You know that position…- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
Apple Store, New York This store is pretty awesome, isn't it? I was just showing this photo to the architect Eric Kuhne (who gave an awesome presentation at EG about futuristic city design - will link soon), and we both had the same reaction to this place... smart and awesome.I always wanted to take a photo from this angle and thought about it ever since the first time I visited. I was happy with the rain, because it made it all feel right. Even better, I was standing under an arch so I was perfectly dry... these kind of shots out in the rain with the 14-24 are tough because of the bulbous lens. It's not a problem if the rain is straight down, but it never is!Lisa Bettany has an upcoming PhotoWalk starting from this location, and I am sure she will mention more today on the live show.- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
The Hover Car in the Diamond Age Around the time of the book signing in New York earlier this year, I headed out into the streets for some shooting. The Diamond District is not too far from Rockefeller Center, and it is a perfect "New Yorky" area at night... especially in the rain. Between stoplights, I would pop out into the street and grab some frames as quickly as possible. With five exposures, the last was pretty long at 30 seconds, so it was still a little "exciting" to grab the tripod at the last second and then scurry off the street. That one car the made it through my tripod-roadblock is interesting, isn't it? It appears to be a hover-car of sorts. I can no longer recall what sort of car it was, but I keep staring at that wonderful apparition. It's quite mesmerizing, floating there on the rainy street.- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
