Romantic Evening in the Alps
The best time of day. (To me.)When you are in a new place and there are too many things to see and do. There are too many places to eat and explore. There are too many streets and alleys to visit and photograph. This is a good thing. It is a nice feeling of being overwhelmed by it all. So, in these times, there are no bad decisions. Just go whichever way the night takes you... get lost and find pretty little things.- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this entry at the Stuck in Customs blog.
The Endless Night Streets of Tokyo
The streets are like this all night long. So, how can you possibly go back to the hotel room? There's never a good breaking point. It is very very hard on my body here, actually, because I usually go back at the point of sheer exhaustion or hunger-breakdown. The last thing I am thinking about is eating or sleeping... but then, once I give in to my body, that's ALL I can think about.

The Lodge at Night On the final night of the Yosemite PhotoWalk, we ended up here to explore the evening. This is the Ahwahnee Hotel in Yosemite, and I hope I made it look as beautiful as it really is. This is also the place that Steve Jobs got married.Karen Hutton and I arrived here very late at night after our extra-long walk! We could even see a few people camping for the night halfway up the mountain they were climbing. After going around the back side of the lodge, we saw the stars and trees and cliffs above...- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
Darkness in the City Sometimes the art gets a little bit dark, yes? These moods are kind of good and kind of fun... and productive in a few different ways.I found this location through Stuck on Earth. We have a Top 50 Secret Spots list in the app from my friend Thomas Hawk. It got me a great shot looking in the other direction. But then, I very simply turned around and saw this out the other window!- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest and see a video of a recent Stuck on Earth Hangout at the Stuck in Customs blog.
Electric LA at Night I took this a few nights ago in Los Angeles. I’ve always wanted to get a good shot of the downtown action, and Stuck On Earth helped me get it.Luckily, I saw a few hints of this kind of a shot from other photographers that had geotagged shots in the area. I went out there with Tom Anderson and we spent a few hours exploring the area. We got countless great shots and this was the first one I processed.- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
Ascending to the Temple at Night
There is a temple atop a huge hill in Lijiang that has several "staging areas" for rest along the way. This is one of them.

This is an area where I took a lot of photos of the old town below. That area is kind of behind me here in this photo, although that is hard to tell from this vantage. It is a good resting place to recharge your batteries before finishing the rest of the hike up the stairs to the top. There's also a little shop here that sells snacks and drinks... To me, a true adventurer never passes up a good snack.

The Canals of Lijiang at Night
There must be a hundred little canals spread here and there through the old town. There are so many opportunities for photos! This is what we call a target-rich environment.

This is the town I was in with Tom Anderson -- every night we explored a new area. It was an amazing time... I can't wait to go back some day!

Chicago Forever
I took this from on top of one of the highest buildings in Chicago. Everyone else was shooting in the other direction - towards all the big buildings. Well, I did too to be honest... but, then I came over here... looking out this way was strangely compelling, so I decided to give it a go! :)

Last Night in Austin

I was down on South Congress having a little secret dinner meeting about this new app we are building… and then the sun started to go down. Did I have my camera and tripod? Yes yes… of course.. if you invite me to dinner, chances are I'll be bringing them along.

I waited for the right moment before running into the middle lane to get this. It was… exciting. Perhaps a bit more exciting than I anticipated… but, I grabbed it, then stopped at a little local market to get some goodies to gnaw on while driving back home...
