The New Austin I don't think I can do a better job of a writeup than many of the other attendees, so here's just a quick recap. We began the PhotoWalk by walking down 6th street down towards Momo's, where we met Leo Laporte and Lisa Bettany for a quick hello. After that, we weaved through the streets together, talking about all sorts of things. I also made about five other stops where I talked through my setup and my shots. On my final shot, we were working our way back towards The Driskill when I took set up for the scene below.It was a standard HDR with five exposures. I was having some trouble grabbing an autofocus spot, so I just went to manual focus just to be sure the lens didn't try to re-focus on the multiple exposures.Thanks again to everyone that came out! The Intersection Today we have a new photo from downtown Tokyo. By now, you have probably figured out that I just can't get enough of these downtown shots. Each angle is nice and different in its own way. Sometimes I like to freeze the action, and sometimes I like to let it flow. It totally depends on my mood when I am shooting.While I am there, I usually have a pretty good idea of how I want to execute the post-processing. It changes the way I take the shots. For example, if I want the action frozen, I'll crank up the ISO so that the people don't drag across the shutter too much. I have my 5 exposures so that the +2 (the longest) fires first. So I know if the middle exposure (the anchor, I call it) has a shutter that is open too long. I can just hear it. If it feels too long, I double the ISO and it halves the shutter speed of the anchor. Approaching Roppongi on Foot On my last night in Japan, I was feeling restless. It sometimes comes at the end of the trip, when I feel like I just haven't taken enough photos. Of course, that's never the case, since I usually have thousands in the hopper by that point. The Galaxy Cafe When I was recently at Universal Orlando, Ethan and I made a late night getaway to do some exploration. We were staying at the Portofino, and they have a wonderful boat system that skirts you down to the main park. We jumped on the boat after dark to go down and visit this little area of shops, restaurants, and dozens of other interesting things to see and experience. I've gotten him used to the idea of roaming aimlessly, taking photos of this and that, with no real goal other than exploration and noticing little things.Ethan and I stopped at a tiny trinket store and bought a few necklaces and bracelets for ourselves and the girls. After that, we grabbed a few hot cocoas, got on the boat, and drifted back home. The Megopolis Hong Kong - What Happens Around Dusk Believe it or not, there is a small documentary being filmed about me. I don't know what to think about it - only to assume it is going to be rather boring! I think it is going to be a lot like Grizzly Man, just without the bear.As this gal is going about her process of gathering materials, she asked me for a few of the original shots from Hong Kong so she can show them during the documentary. A Bar with a View This is an incredible bar in that overlooks the amazing city of Tokyo. The place was amazingly awesome, and I could see it becoming a major hangout if I lived in the city. Then again, everywhere I went I could picture as a major hangout! Can anyone figure out exactly where this was taken? Zipping Through Tokyo I think it rained almost every day I was in Tokyo, but that's just fine with me. It gives you all these "Black Rain" conditions, and makes the place twice as moody as it already was. I walked through Rappongi one evening to find a secret Italian restaurant. An Open Air Lounge in Kuala Lumpur Isn’t this place awesome? It’s a bar on top of a roof of the Trader’s Hotel in Kuala Lumpur. It looks out across the new skyline at the Petronas Towers. Malaysia is a pretty hot and humid country, so sometimes it’s not quite so comfy to sit outside. I don’t like to sit outside in muggy conditions… I just don’t. I remember that I played indoor soccer there in Kuala Lumpur on another night and it was one of my top 10 sweaty nights. Afterward, the only way to cool off was to drink about 128 oz of iced carrot-milk.
