Fishing on Oahu The rugged coasts along Oahu make for some lay-up (as Tom calls them) photos. Everything is quite rugged and dramatic. But, even if it was not for the drama of the scene, I think this fisherman is extra-dramatic! The Lost Cliffs of Oahu This is a very very very rare re-processing of a photo! I usually never go back to a work.. so, this is more the exception than the rule.But I started trying a few different things with Photomatix (that you can see in the Photomatix presets at the site), and I just like the overall feel of the photo better than the previous version. Along the Coast of Oahu It doesn’t take too long to drive around the edge of Oahu — maybe just a few hours or so. This is pretty convenient to quickly check the whole island for weather and lighting conditions. When there is interesting weather in one part, there is probably something quite different in another part of the island. Japanese in the Hawaii And, continuing the theme of Japanese people, here is a couple in Hawaii. I like how they are wearing matching outfits (her dress matches his shirt if you look closely). The Forever CoastOahu looks like such a small island on the map, but the coast seems to go on for ever and ever! We drove around the island in a counter-clockwise manner and popped out of the car from time to time.To get to this spot in particular, Tom and I had to jump over the guard rail and run out onto a little cliff. The Disney Temple I put up a photo of a temple in Oahu yesterday, and it occurred to me that this is just another form of the temple… sort of a modern-day worship of spas and relaxation! You can make an argument that, in many ways, this is just as beautiful as those revered buildings of another age…This is the Aulani, a Disney resort on Oahu. Tom and I drove over here to take photos one evening. I didn’t stay here overnight, but I did stay late into the evening to take photos. There’s also a big beach and a ton of cool spots to take photos. Paddleboard in Hawaii The weather in Hawaii was rather dour and dismal for most of my trip. I only caught one sunset while there, so I decided to try to make the most of it.This lone paddleboarder was skating across the surface of the ocean while I was walking along the beach. Although this photo looks fairly serene and calm, I was not. You only get one chance for this shot, unless you are willing to take a shot, sprint, take a shot, sprint, take a shot, SPRINT, etc. I'm sure people on the beach thought I was a loon, but I couldn't think of any other way to get it done!- Trey RatcliffRead the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
Waikiki at NightAnd during the photowalk, there were many great chances to take photos of the city. It was exciting for me — it was my first time to see the city at night. All the Oahu people were kind of used to it, I assume… But it was also exciting to have them all around.When I set up for these shots during the photowalks, it’s always extra-strange. Because I’m really trying to get a good shot, but I also know that a ton of people are watching me right there. And then I talk through my shot while I’m taking it. Paddleboard in Hawaii


The weather in Hawaii was rather dour and dismal for most of my trip. I only caught one sunset while there, so I decided to try to make the most of it.

This lone paddleboarder was skating across the surface of the ocean while I was walking along the beach. Although this photo looks fairly serene and calm, I was not. You only get one chance for this shot, unless you are willing to take a shot, sprint, take a shot, sprint, take a shot, SPRINT, etc. I'm sure people on the beach thought I was a loon, but I couldn't think of any other way to get it done!
