The Glowing Louvre Here’s another photo from the amazing PhotoWalk in Paris. This was supposed to be the end of the walk, but it ended up being the halfway point! In post-processing this one, I made the Louvre feel a little more warm and inviting, while the outside stayed a bit more cold and foreboding. I edited this one in front of a live class in Christchuch… I hope people enjoyed that bit ! :) Not all of my edits were successful that day, but I think this one turned out alright.- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
Where the Bloody Walls Screamed Here is one of the many ill-forgotten and scary rooms in the chateau. Some were fully furnished and perfect, but others had fallen apart after years of neglect. Here is one of those many incredible rooms!- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
The Forever CoastOahu looks like such a small island on the map, but the coast seems to go on for ever and ever! We drove around the island in a counter-clockwise manner and popped out of the car from time to time.To get to this spot in particular, Tom and I had to jump over the guard rail and run out onto a little cliff. It was quite high up, so I didn’t get too close to the edge… but the high perspective helped me to aim down along the coast without needing to show the horizon.- Trey RatcliffRead the entire post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
The Distant Mist
While in Iceland, I traveled through a lowlands area early in the morning. A mist -- a video-game-mist -- started moving quickly across the ground and through the distant hillocks. It was all so surreal that I barely remembered that I should be taking a photo of this. That was a strange feeling, since the whole reason I was there was to take photos! :)- Trey RatcliffRead the rest of this entry at the Stuck in Customs blog.
The Gentle Rays
On my first evening in Yosemite, the sun did some amazing things. There as a big group of Google+ people converging on Yosemite, but I arrived a day early for a little "me" time. Nature must have felt my mojo because it all conspired to create some interesting results as the rays tumbled across the valley floor.

Mountains Forever During the Yosemite PhotoWalk, the sky was beyond belief for the first few nights. The second half of the trip had fairly mundane skies. So, I was happy I went out there and got a lot of shots in the beginning!I’m often optimistic about the “future” of the trip, assuming that the sunsets will always get better and better. This rarely is the case, so I don’t know why I’m consistently optimistic about the prospects.- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
The Louvre in Heavy Clouds
People are always around this thing! If you've been there, then you know what I mean... getting a clean shot is almost impossible, unless you visit just after sunrise.

In this case, I don't photoshop out the people, but I minimize them... so the photo isn't really about the people, it's about the Louvre. But, with a wide angle lens, you have to get right up on the thing.

Exploring the Church
I like all the colorful votives. They make everything a bit more festive.... Cathedrals can be sort of melancholy places, so anything to liven things up a bit are a nice change of pace. I'm not saying we should go neon-signs or blinky-text on the church's website or anything crazy like that.... just a little somethin-somethin to spice things up a bit.

And I do like that hallway quite a lot... it's got a nice M.C.Escher quality to it.

My Next Trip to the Louvre You know how sometimes you go some place awesome and you think, "This is really cool, I think I'll probably come back some day." But then, sometimes, after the event, you start thinking that maybe you may not be able to make it back. You never really know I guess. Anyway, when I do go back to the Louvre in July, I'm going to spend a day inside sketching. I do like to sketch (I have a few on the About Me page), and this seems like a great place to do it. I wish I had a whole month in Paris... I'd try to go here once a week for a day of sketching. Maybe I should put this on my to do list... why not? - Trey Ratcliff Read more here at the Stuck in Customs blog.
