The New Garden Path Along the Great Wall of China Just to get to this point required a long walk through a rocky forest. It wasn’t like the super-pristine part of the Great Wall (which is actually quite fake and Disney-like) — where you can drive up in a huge tour bus and park in huge parking lot. No, it wasn’t like that at all. Instead, there was a “path” that was barely discernable (much less so when I walked back in the dark alone!) that wove up through a forest along an old creekbed. I’m not sure I could find it again if I had to!- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
A Weaving Path Through the Wetlands I’ve revisited this path in Glenorchy a few times now. You’ll see this in the new New Zealand video that is available now, by the way. I took a ton of different photos while there, but this one did not look so great in color. It was curious to me because there was something about the photo that I liked… but it looked so dull in color. And then I realized it was the shape and the contrast that was most interesting! So I decided to emphasize that with the black and white treatment using Silver Efex Pro.- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
Walking in Yosemite Here’s a photo from a walk along this beautiful little path in Yosemite. It looks very serene and welcoming, yes? Well it is! I was sad I only got to spend one day here in the forest… I’d like to go back. Actually, I’d really like to get to Yosemite when it is snowing. I bet there are a thousand interesting photos all over the place… but now, by the time out I find out it is snowing, it will take me too long to get over there! :(I took this one during the crazy photowalk there… we had so much fun!- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
A Lonely Walk to the Ocean It was a lonely beach! So sad. I think I had a lot of things to talk about this day too! I can't remember. Sometimes Twitter and Facebook just don't cut it!In other news, I'll be at a charity function in Dallas next Saturday. They are auctioning off some of my art at my old school, Good Shepherd, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary. Now, anyone can buy raffle tickets ($15), even if you do have to go through a somewhat annoying registration process. I also understand they have a new library where one of my prints will be hung. I'll try to nab a photo of it while there!- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
Afternoon at the Chateau Here is one of the many images created during the workshop. I decided I liked this slightly off-center version rather than right down the middle. I loved the one right down the middle too, of course, but just was giving the situation a bit of a curve-ball. The tree branches seemed so interesting to me, and I wanted to accentuate them in post processing so they felt like one hundred little arrows, all pointing at the chateau.- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
Enjoying the Melbourne Skyline Here’s another photo from our amazing Melbourne photowalk. I really enjoyed walking up and down this area along the river. It felt like one of the most “walkable” and scenic downtown areas I’ve ever encountered. It reminded me a little of Zurich in that way.I stayed over in The Olsen hotel, which is one of the “Art Series” hotels… a very cool idea where the entire hotel is themed after a certain artist. They have a few different hotels, and next time I might try to stay a little closer in by the location where I took this shot.- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
Bryant Park in New York City I stayed in a cool hotel right next to this park. I’ve forgotten the name, but I found it with Hotel Tonight, which is a really cool iPad app you should get. Even better, the app has a lot of my photography in it… so it is even further recommended! This park is very pretty and relaxing. It’s even busy deep into the night… and, it seems perfectly safe, which is always extra-charming to those of us that are not from New York. Going to a park at night in NYC is supposed to be a very scary thing!- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
The Walking Path in Glenorchy This is a new walking path that has just been built through the woods and wetlands of Glonorchy. As far as I know, it is pretty rare to have wetlands so close to towering mountains, isn’t it? I suppose I always think of the wetlands in flat areas, like Louisiana and places like this. There are a few different routes to take. Some take just an hour, and others take a few. I want to go back to this area with some more time!- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
