The Milford Sound Spray People are sometimes disappointed when they come to Milford Sound and it is raining, but that is really one of the best times! The waterfalls go absolutely crazy, and there are, in my opinion, more interesting photos to be taken than in the sunshine. Of course, it’s a very different kind of photo, but you really can’t go wrong. There are a few boat cruises that go out into the sound and the ocean as well… those are all highly recommended. Where the Princess Dwells at Night…
I called for a little PhotoWalk at Disney! It was really really really fun - and getting this shot was tough! I think +William Beem +Gilmar Smith +Keith Barrett or perhaps +Ali Elhajj got a video of me trying to convince half a dozen Disney workers to "sweep water" in front of my camera, which was splayed on the ground. At first, one guy didn't want to do it because he might get in trouble... then the other acquiesced... and then, before they knew it, they were all being controlled like crystal farmers in Starcraft... we eventually got all the water in the right place!I had to go over and whip out my sweet Android phone to show them some photos from Google+ -- I found the one from Paris with the puddle - I said I needed a puddle about thiiiiis big … and eventually we got it all engineered out. They were all very helpful and nice… I convinced them all to come onto Google+ to see the final result -- so I hope they are here! Hi guys - Y muchas gracias!- Trey RatcliffRead the rest at the Stuck in Customs blog.
Romantic Evening in the Alps
The best time of day. (To me.)When you are in a new place and there are too many things to see and do. There are too many places to eat and explore. There are too many streets and alleys to visit and photograph. This is a good thing. It is a nice feeling of being overwhelmed by it all. So, in these times, there are no bad decisions. Just go whichever way the night takes you... get lost and find pretty little things.- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this entry at the Stuck in Customs blog.
The Creepy Green Stairs Why are the stairs green in this? Anyone, Anyone? Bueller? Voodoo economics is the answer.Instead of answering directly, I'll let you clever readers figure out the answer and put it down in the comments... I have faith in you guys to figure it out! This was taken in Kyoto, Japan on a rainy evening. This is one of the main temples that stay open late into the night. It's one of my favorite times to come, because the crowds are gone and everything is extra-eerie. It makes it even more special while I'm listening to my special playlists on my iPod. It really gets me in the mood to make these sorts of shots.- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
The Bund in the Rain This is shot from the old British part of Shanghai called the Bund. The rain was bitter rough that night and I was on the roof, but I managed to get in position and stay dry enough (for a moment) for this one.- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
The Storm Hitting the Barn It was about 3 in the afternoon and things were getting over-the-top warm. You know that feeling when the weather gets so uncomfortably warm that you expect something to happen soon? This feeling washed over me about 30 minutes before these violent clouds form to sweep over the Rocky Mountains towards the barn. The tripod was nearby, so I grabbed it to go outside and set up the easel. - Trey Ratcliff Read the rest of this entry here at the Stuck in Customs blog.
The Rainbow After the Storm All that's missing from this one is a unicorn. This is one reason I am excited about genetic engineering. I think that some odd-ball researcher is going to make a real unicorn one day... and everyone (well, MOST everyone) will love it. Hey future-unicorn-genetic-engineer, please contact me after you successfully bring one of these to term so I can take the first photo. That would be very cool. - Trey Ratcliff Read the rest of this entry here at the Stuck in Customs blog.
About to Explore Milford Sound Milford Sound was one of the three places that everyone in New Zealand told me I had to visit. And after arriving there, I'm glad I did! It was a bit foggy and cloudy while I was there, but it made for a nice mood. The light rain would get a bit annoying on the lens, but we all learn to deal with these little bummer things that happen. Nothing is perfect and nothing is easy... - Trey Ratcliff Read the rest of this entry here.
Traditional Japanese Woman in Tokyo A few weeks ago I said I was working on some tips and tricks for taking photos of people. I haven't forgotten about that promise! I've just been super-busy. And now I will be in Iceland for about two weeks... but it is still on my to-do list!- Trey Ratcliff Read more at the Stuck in Customs blog.
