The Russian Sub There is a longer story around this photo that I caught on video... I'll wait for that to be released!But, as you can see, I clearly got onto a Russian sub in the middle of the night. It was docked right next to the Queen Mary in Long Beach. As I was walking across its iron surface and hearing the empty echoes below, I could not imagine the sub making it all the way from Russia to this harbor. Los Angeles from Runyon Canyon I spent most of the day at Tom’s house in the Hollywood hills doing interviews. Getting interviewed all day is kind of a draining thing, in a way. The day was dreadfully cloudy, but around 5 PM, I started to think the sky would be interesting at sunset and into the night. The Disney Temple I put up a photo of a temple in Oahu yesterday, and it occurred to me that this is just another form of the temple… sort of a modern-day worship of spas and relaxation! You can make an argument that, in many ways, this is just as beautiful as those revered buildings of another age…This is the Aulani, a Disney resort on Oahu. Tom and I drove over here to take photos one evening. I didn’t stay here overnight, but I did stay late into the evening to take photos. There’s also a big beach and a ton of cool spots to take photos. Palm Trees at Night One night in Oahu we were doing some photography along a beach. Off in the distance we saw some palm trees that were lit from the bottom. It was about a quarter mile from anything else, so that was sort of strange. But I thought it was so interesting to see them lit from the bottom with small green pools of light underneath that I decided to walk over there and see what was going on. After I got over there, there were endless compositions of these various trees. Bridge Through Steamy Jungle Here's another photo from that Disney resort in Oahu. I guess there's nothing about that make it Disney other than it's kinda cool and "feels" right. It makes me wish all bridges had little lights like this!Just in the distance there maybe you can make out a bit of light blue water. That is part of a little lazy river that snakes around the property. Paddleboard in Hawaii The weather in Hawaii was rather dour and dismal for most of my trip. I only caught one sunset while there, so I decided to try to make the most of it.This lone paddleboarder was skating across the surface of the ocean while I was walking along the beach. Although this photo looks fairly serene and calm, I was not. A Smooth Landing This was a wild last-second shot! I was driving down the highway along the coast of Oahu with Tom and we saw this area where these parachuters were practicing landing. Not being a hardcore parachuter (having only done it once!), I didn’t really understand that a landing was something one could “practice” — I figured you just either landed or you died. It seemed pretty binary. Waikiki after Sunset Right after the PhotoWalk in Oahu started, I went over to take this photo. As usual, I talked through it while people were crowded around. But, at first, people didn't ask many questions. That's okay... maybe the situation was weird... but later in the walk, people opened up and started to ask more questions. I think people there were just very nice and didn't want to seem too pushy or anything. Not being a hardcore parachuter (having only done it once!), I didn’t really understand that a landing was something one could “practice” — I figured you just either landed or you died. It seemed pretty binary. Anyway, while there was all this activity, I jumped out there and put my 14-24 on my camera so I could get in close on some of the landings for some fun shots…
