The Streets of Mont Saint Michel I miss this place already!I had a magical time exploring this place night after night. It never got boring and there were hundreds of little nooks, crannies, staircases, doors, and other mysteries to discover! I even got in the middle of a cat fight while two medieval cats duked it out… the whole place was dead quiet up until the point. That sound of fighting cats is hard to ignore… and then it all went back to quiet after that.By the way, if you ever come to this amazing place, I suggest you sleep up inside the walled city. There aren’t a lot of rooms up there, so plan ahead. I think it’s better than staying outside of the city, because you get to roam around inside of it at night…- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
The Internal Weather System This is another view inside the cavernous symphony hall in Beijing. The place is so enormous that you can see the beginnings of little clouds inside when the lights move a certain way. I actually think only part of it is related to the size – the other part is related to the awful pollution all around Beijing. There is so much particulate in the air, and it fills up inside big places like this. When the distance is obscured by cloud-matter, it makes everything feel more epic and grand (albeit dirty!).- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
The Red Boat at Dock
The Cheerful Austin Christmas Dragon
It was a great PhotoWalk in Austin last night! Remember to tag your photos with #gplusaustin -- and click around to see some stuff. We had over 100 sign up on plancast, and it got pretty crazy because a lot of people brought friends and family. It was a lot of fun to meet people.

We had one guy come in from South Africa, a gal Karen Hutton come in from California, and many more from all around the Texas area. Everyone we very nice and fun as usual.

I had an autographed 2012 calendar to give away, but I forgot! Sorry that was lame of me... I had it on the floorboard of my car and everything, but with getting the kids out and everything, I forgot - you know how it is.

Outside the Restaurant To me, it depends on my mood. My eye is often drawn to what appears to be a mistake at fist glance — or something confusing. In this case, I saw the red pants and the red lights in a strange configuration. And then, a micro-moment later, I saw the girl they were attached to. It all lined up so nicely that I grabbed a photo the second she noticed me.- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
Cartier on the Bund This was shot on the Bund in Shanghai inside a small but nice building that had a few high-end stores. I thought the chairs and couch had a nice texture and shape near the rich decor, so I had to set up for a quick shot!- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
Secret Treasures of Beijing These little finds are everywhere! Sometimes, while stumbling around from alleyway to alleyway, I appear right in the middle of these perfect little scenes. It was very close to the National Day, and crews were out freshening-up the city. There were about four Chinese painters that were busy putting a fresh red coat of paint on this perfect little bridge. By chance, they were just finishing up as I approached. This little boat from the painters was pulled up beside the bridge in a wonderful way, so I set up my tripod along the bank for a photo. They all looked at me in a confused way. They had no idea why I would want to take a photo of their little boat and the bridge. I imagine they find this so commonplace as to be hardly worthy of a photo... and it makes me wonder about all the non-photographers (or fans of this site) out there. Perhaps they just go through life and don't even notice anything interesting pretty and nicely composed. What an empty visual life this must be!- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
1,000 Red Gates What a wonderful and unique place on earth this is! In Kyoto, Japan, there resides the unique shrine of Fushimi Inari. It consists of thousands of red gates that wind up and down the mountain. I walked through it deep into the night…. I was the only one around and it was downright eerie. Every now and then, the gates would stop and there would be a mini-shrine off to one side or a graveyard to another. Both of these added to the creep factor.I had a serious worry about an hour into the hike through these gates — what if they turn off the lights? I had no flashlight! I considered my two options — I could strobe my SB-800 to find my way out, which would be a totally surreal experience through these gates. Or, I could do what one of my Israeli hiker friends did in Argentina, use the back of my camera display for light (he actually used his to set up his tent)!- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
