A Moving Sunset When the sun started going down in Milford Sound, I figured I was going to start using up a lot of memory cards. I’m still using those RAW Steel cards that are 16GB each. The D800 has been filling up my cards pretty quickly, so I’ve been thinking about upgrading to 32GB. Girl in Austin on BikeWhen I was at South by Southwest, we had an amazing photowalk downtown. After the whole thing was over, I spent about an hour saying hello to people and having my picture taken and this sort of thing. I do always enjoy that… having extra time to meet people is always nice.After I was done, I went into the Driskill to get a few things I left behind. What the Ancient Seamariners Saw Imagine seeing this if you were one of the great sea explorers of yore!This is the entrance to Milford Sound from the Tasman Sea. It would have been so amazing to come across this and wonder what it was like up inside the fjord. And then, the captain could just decide to sail up inside and land some boats on the shore. Maybe if they were a little hungry, they could even grab a few Moas and cook ‘em up. My Kea Camper on the South IslandThis was one of the prettiest parts of the drive to Milford Sound. You can’t miss it. You CAN miss a lot of things down there, but not if you are right along this main road. The Horse and Carriage I stayed in an amazing place when I was in the south of China, and every morning this horse and carriage would pull up in front. And, like any good model, the horse didn't complain while I went around and took a bunch of shots while fiddling with my camera.This photo was taken with my 50mm lens at ISO 200 f/1.4 and the shutter was 1/8000. The Dance Recital I feel like I go to about 20 dance recitals a year! If you have a daughter in dance, then you know what I mean.This was a cold one, and I mean supa-cold. It was about 20 degrees outside, and then recital was, for some reason, outside. I was going to go sit down and cover up, but the blanket was only big enough for the rest of the family. So I decided to keep moving and take a lot of photos. Lighthouse on Roanoke Island at Sunset Ahhhh - finally a good sunset! I keep track of the sunsets like an insane meteorologist combined with a native-American shaman. I do my best to look at each day and figure out how things will end up that evening. Predicting more than a day ahead is almost impossible, unless you are at a special place on the planet around a certain type of year.On this day in North Carolina, I knew that the late afternoon storm was a small cell, and it would pass quickly, perhaps letting the sun peak beneath the clouds to light them from the bottom. There were many abandoned cars, homes, and other lost things falling apart here and there.
