San Francisco in the Fog SF would not be the same without the fog, would it? It’s part of the city, like the wind in Chicago. But the wind in Chicago kinda sucks, so I guess that is a bad analogy. Maybe a better one is it’s like the water in Venice or the neon in Vegas.I took this photo from the top of Twin Peaks with a 28-300mm lens. I think it’s probably the best spot to take this photo because of the black background behind the bridge. If you shoot it from the other side, then you get the city behind it. Of course, that can be cool too – it’s just a different sort of shot.- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
Chicago Forever
I took this from on top of one of the highest buildings in Chicago. Everyone else was shooting in the other direction - towards all the big buildings. Well, I did too to be honest... but, then I came over here... looking out this way was strangely compelling, so I decided to give it a go! :)

The Carrier
I've been wanting to process this photo forever -- I love carriers.

This one is open to the public, but I arrived too late to get up on the deck... So I was stuck on the ground level -- but then a sweet fog rolled in to cover part of the carrier.

The Tattoo Shop
I did a Google+ hangout last night where I worked on this photo. I took it just recently at the San Francisco PhotoWalk with Thomas Hawk. It was a great night... so many sights to be seen there.

As usual, I had two cameras with me. One was for quick street shots with a 50mm prime. The other had my 14-24mm (see Nikon 14-24mm Review) on for these sorts of shots. I find that if I want to be on the sidewalk and take a photo of the store in front of me, I really need this kind of lens to squeeze it all in!

Boston at Sunset
Boston is great and I am sad I've only spent a short amount of time there. On this evening, I walked along the waterfront here to look at all the various angles and light levels. They were all good! That's a sign of a good city when it is hard to take a bad photo of it!

Dinner at the Post Ranch Inn
This is the second photo I have released from the Post Ranch Inn (first one here). It's such a beautiful place, and, while not exploring the property, we were busy looking forward to a great dinner. Just outside the restaurant is this earthy sculpture and waterfall. It was very nice the way the evening light came and refracted through the water... I don't think I've ever been able to watch the sunset through a sheet of water, so it was quite nice.

The Bay Beyond the Golden Gate This spot up on the mountain, just north of San Francisco, is a very windy spot! Even when you have a sturdy tripod, the wind can knock it around quite a bit. In this one, I had to set up to shoot and then stand in front of the tripod, curling my body around the lens to try to block the wind. - Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
Heavy Industry in Petaluma Taking photos near ground-water can be very interesting. And hard! Getting near that puddle is tough because you have to splay out the tripod. Even worse, you gotta kneel down in the muck (since puddles usually involve nearby muck). But, these are all relatively high-grade problems, all in all ... - Trey Ratcliff The rest of this entry can be read here at stuckincustoms.com.
The Metal Moose After the book party in Chicago (thanks again for all of you that showed up!), we had a little photowalk the next day. Along the way, we stopped outside an office building near Michigan Avenue that had this enormous metal moose. I'm not a big fan of taking photos of art, but this was an exception. - Trey Ratcliff The rest of this entry, as well as plugs for a few eBooks by friends of mine, is here.

San Francisco in the Fog
