The Castle Crackled with Magic as its Gods Held Lightning, Ready to Smite Down the Non-believers Is there anything cooler than the old architecture throughout Europe? I say there is not.In this upcoming article that I’m working on for Smashing Magazine, I mention a membrane between fantasy and reality, and, for whatever reason, seeing things like this help me drift back and forth between what is real and what is not real. I know critics typically get caught up in reality; I get caught up in fantasy. I can’t be in places like this without thinking of the Game of Thrones.- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
Massive Storm hits Virgin GordaThis turned out to be one of my favorite spots on Virgin Gorda a few weeks ago. There is a long road that trails up and down the island. Along one side of the big mountain, there is a little spot where you can get this perspective. I went up there early to grab photos of the sunset, but I was greeted with the sight of a massive storm instead!- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the entire post at the Stuck in Customs blog. There's also a new video with my photography put to the music of Hans Zimmer.
Castle for Sale
This is a somewhat dilapidated castle in Iceland, and it’s for sale! I got out to hike around it and take photos, and I noticed a FOR SALE sign in front! I mean, obviously this falls into the category of “fixer upper” — but look at the view! I bet you can get it for a good price too… Let’s see who can figure it out first!- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the entire post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
The Weather Station
I don't think I could exactly geo-locate this photo if I had to. But, believe me - it's in the middle of nowhere.

I'm not completely sure, but I think this is one of the many remote weather stations scattered around Iceland. They are these perfect little triangular things that sit there, as lonely as can be.

The Louvre in Heavy Clouds
People are always around this thing! If you've been there, then you know what I mean... getting a clean shot is almost impossible, unless you visit just after sunrise.

In this case, I don't photoshop out the people, but I minimize them... so the photo isn't really about the people, it's about the Louvre. But, with a wide angle lens, you have to get right up on the thing.

A Long Day on the Cape I wanted to share this photo I just took of a massive storm sweeping over the complex on the evening before the launch. I was supposed to be going over to the actual launch pad as night was falling to get a shot, but this storm started to roll in, upsetting those plans. The big structure you see on the other side of the flag is the Vehicle Assembly Building, and that blue structure you see to the left is the famous countdown-clock you always see in front of the press area before the launch. Right as I was taking this, an official lady from NASA ran into the field warning me that this was now a "Level 2 lightning alert!" I happen to be standing by another NASA Tweetup invitee, Lavar Burton. He asked, "Is that like a Level 3 diagnostic?" Greatness. He was a really cool guy, btw... I put up a photo of us together over on my Facebook Page. - Trey Ratcliff Read more, including information on the free version of the 100 Cameras in 1 iPad app, here at stuckincustoms.com.
The Bund in the Rain This is shot from the old British part of Shanghai called the Bund. The rain was bitter rough that night and I was on the roof, but I managed to get in position and stay dry enough (for a moment) for this one.- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
