Approaching Mount Fuji from the Old Village What a perfect place this is!I’ve been to Japan many times, but I never had the chance to visit Mt. Fuji! This time, Tom and I made a point to do it, and this was one of our fist stops. You can see much more about it in the video above!- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
Ornate Taxi in Beijing This little taxi reminded me a bit of those crazy Burning Man cars! It parked here for just long enough for me to grab a photo. After it left, I realized that I think wanted a ride in it… but I was too busy getting lost in taking the photo to keep my wits about me.- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
Man on Horse in Lijiang Square When I arrived into the middle of this opening within the tight city of Lijiang, a fresh rain had just made everything nice and slick. There were a few men walking around the old town square on horses in the midst of all the pedestrian activity. - Trey RatcliffClick here to read the entire post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
Dark and Light in LijiangHere’s a photo that I edited live during the class a few days ago. The motions I went through are also inside of one those “Trey’s Lightroom Presets” I mentioned a few days ago… you can do so much in Lightroom nowadays that it is kind of scary! This is one of the main streets in the city of Lijiang. During the day, it looks quite traditional, but at night, everything lights up and becomes wonderfully alive.- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the entire post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
Lijiang at Night This is the old town of Lijiang, China, where I spent the week with Tom Anderson (the MySpace guy). I think I mentioned him before. Anyway, we got to be friends over the past several months, and we ended up spending a week together here in the south of China.Tom had first been here many years ago when he was setting up the MySpace office in Beijing. He had great memories, and he thought it would be great for a big return now that he is getting more into photography. So, it was definitely a week full of non-stop photography action. One late night after the sun had set, we weaved through the old streets until we found this place. Looking up, I knew it would be a wonderful place to take a photo, so I set up for this one.- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
The Home of the Artist What do you think is happening here? What fanciful story can you concoct?I grabbed this yesterday while exploring inside and around Lijiang...- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
Girl in Japan While walking down a busy street in Kyoto, most of the people were in regular clothes. And, by "regular clothes", I mean that the Japanese are often quite stylish dressers. There is something unique about the Japanese style that varies from other Asian cultures. They have a different kind of fashion sense, and it's usually very smart. They dress in a lot of layers, fine cloths, nice textures, and somewhat fanciful. Maybe you know what I mean.On occasion, I would see traditional girls wearing kimonos, drifting in and out of various shops. This girl was taking small steps while leaving the shop,- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
Traditional Japanese Woman in Tokyo A few weeks ago I said I was working on some tips and tricks for taking photos of people. I haven't forgotten about that promise! I've just been super-busy. And now I will be in Iceland for about two weeks... but it is still on my to-do list!- Trey Ratcliff Read more at the Stuck in Customs blog.
ilili I was here alone. You can see my laptop there on the table... I like to take a long time to eat while editing photos and listening to music with my earphones on. Every other patron looks at me kind of like a freak. That's quite okay!Luckily, while I was waiting for the food, they let me run around the restaurant with my tripod. This is yet another thing that makes people look at me strangely. They can't imagine why anyone would bring such a monster setup to do such a thing. Most people assume that the restaurant pays me to do it, but the staff knows that is not the case. At one point, the manager came over to talk to me -- not to get mad... just to chat about art and food and life and these sorts of things. And then I ate some amazing food! I had some sort of Lebanese marinated lamb on saffron rice. I need more saffron in my life...- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
