Great Wall in Evening Light When I was at the Great Wall that evening, I kept hiking along the old wall as the sun set. I also had a zoom lens (28-300mm) with me, so I was able to get in tight on far away structures and shapes. Not too long after I took this shot, I walked along several lengths of the wall to get to these ruins. The Great Wall of China Wow I was alone here. As I walked along this ancient, original stretch of the Great Wall, I felt the ghosts haunting the old towers and little enclaves.I finally found an extremely remote part that is far enough away from civilization to stay pure. The ruins of the wall in this area has been overgrown with vegetation. When you walk along the top, you have to snake your way between huge bushes and all sorts of trees. Stairs and parts of the walkways have crumbled away in the past thousand years. The old towers are slowly fragmenting as lichens and moss cover parts of the stone that are decaying away.This has only reminded me that the main tourist part of the Great Wall is a very tiny stretch that has been re-built in recent years… so it is all fake and kind of Disney-wall. I don’t think I like that…That day I walked from tower to tower, looking at the sinuous wall as it snakes over the mountains. It’s so huge that I won’t even begin to come up with analogies… but, speaking of snakes, a family here told me to watch out for them. I kept that in mind as I hiked back in the pure black of night. I had a little flashlight to keep me company, along with my music. Journey of a Lifetime in Africa I have never been to Africa, but it is very high on the list. Very very high. And I understand from many of my friends that it will get very deep into me, and I'll want to go back many times. That's okay... and I look forward to that feeling! This photo is taken in Disney World in the Animal Kingdom. The Imagineers run around and make everything look all Africa-ey and authentic... Tokyo Tunnel During a fun photowalk in Tokyo, we were doing our best to get a city shot around sunset. We speculated that perhaps the best way to get from Point A to a mysterious Point B was to go through this tunnel. The Wall of Fog The morning in Yellowstone had the most unusual weather! While I was driving in, the Earth-heated river was steaming in the frigid morning air. It looked incredibly awesome, but I knew it was the kind of thing that was really tough to capture in a photo. After a bit more exploration and random turns, the road approached a giant wall of solid fog. I popped out of the car for a shot before getting back in to drive into the wall. Inside, the morning light was strange when it came in at sharp angles through the trees. Since I had to drive so slow, I pulled over to the side and took out my pack for a morning hike into the trees... A Canyon Oasis This place is deep inside Glacier National Park. The only bad thing about photography is I can't show how deafening the sound of the waterfall inside the canyons was! It ricocheted around the rocky walls and seemed to be perfectly acoustic echo chamber. I didn't get in, but the water seemed super-cold. It was a nice spot to stop and take a break for a bit. Inside My Secret Cloning Chamber I would love to have a mad scientist lab that is only accessible via a retinal scan and a special dance. Inside I would have all kinds of fabulous things, including a clone chamber where I would clone myself several times so that I could keep track of all my various social networks. The clone would, of course, have the same retina, but it could not gain access into the mad science lab because it would fail the special dance bit.I'd very much like to record a music video in here alongside Flight of the Conchords.As you can see from my intricate tagging system, this was shot in Chicago. The Secret Spots in Tokyo What an amazing place. Now, knowing the crowd around here, you will be able to identify this secret spot in Tokyo. I really thank everyone out there for being so kind and introducing me to these great spots for photography. I feel quite lucky that when I travel, I have instant friends everywhere. I can't believe it! Anyway, the gentleman who ushered me into this incredible lair was Alfie. The Neo Monoliths of Chicago After my meeting I headed downtown to see the new Millennium Park that recently opened. It was incredibly surreal and awesome.
