Hard Drinking on a Disney Cruise I guess if that is what you want to do on a Disney Cruise, this is the place to do it. What an amazing bar this is! This is the second photo I posted from this location, and it shows another one of the dynamic backgrounds that swap in and out every few minutes.I spent most of my time up very close to the screens. Not only do they change — but they are also fully animated, showing all the traffic of cars and pedestrians as they move around the city.- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
Where the Bloody Walls Screamed Here is one of the many ill-forgotten and scary rooms in the chateau. Some were fully furnished and perfect, but others had fallen apart after years of neglect. Here is one of those many incredible rooms!- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
New York, New York Is it a sad thing to say that one of the most fun things I did in Vegas was walk around by myself and take photos? Yes, I think that sounds kinda sad. But it's true! What a great place for photography. The lights are insane, the textures are off-the-wall, and everywhere you look is a feast for the eyes. It's also a real challenge to try to get everything just right in the photo. With so many light levels working against one another on your sensor, it takes a bit to get it right.- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
Running to the Storm Cellar on the Farm The visions of a farm bracing against a storm had come true that afternoon. I'm sure the last thing I was supposed to be doing was taking a photo of the swirling maelstrom, but I couldn't help it. What else are you going to do with a good tripod and a nice Nikon? I don't carry around this stuff so I can go inside when dire and picturesque events are about!- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
A Little Place I Found on the Way to Dinner in Germany I wish I could walk to dinner every night and find little places like this along the way. Since I carry my tripod and camera just about everywhere, I'd always be ready in case something like this pops up!This was shot in Halle, Germany, just a short train ride from Leipzig. I love how these old churches are often lit with orange lights... I think it always makes them look nice against the blue dusky skies.Setting up the tripod for these evening HDRs always allows you to set the ISO as low as possible, and in aperture priority mode, the shutter will stay open for a long time, letting those clouds drift by and drag light across the lens. It gives a nice feel to the shot and makes the church look even more timeless and solid.- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
Stuck in India - Humayun's Tomb If you want to see how I made this (and how you can too!), visit my HDR Tutorial. I hope it gives you some new tricks! This is a picture of the Tomb of Humayun in Delhi. I arrived during Diwali, the biggest annual festival that involves a burning a lot of things. Most of the tombs, mausoleums, temples, and the like were surprisingly empty, giving me clean access to cool places like this without dopey tourists getting in the way of sweet photography. It is the next morning now and the air in Delhi is covered with the smoke from last night's festivities... There is this acrid smell of stale carbon and it's not exactly like a trip to Sedona. Luckily, I am getting out of the city today because my hosts have been kind enough to give me a ride up to Agra to visit the fort and Taj Mahal... more pictures coming soon, so stay tuned!- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
Stuck in Customs in Space I love this shot! It came out wicked. I used to say wicked a lot in grade school and I still like saying it. This may or may not make me lame, and I can't be objective about such things. This is the airport in Bangkok, Thailand. I am not sure who the architect is, but it came out quite inspired. Taking photos of beautiful architecture is somewhat of a sport of mine. I want to try to honor the lines and the textures via a good composition and a good HDR treatment.- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
