I took this on my final sunset in Venice. I had been there a month, and I still never lost the "bug" to go out and take photos. I decided to go to an area of Venice that was quite far from my hotel. I was getting in the habit of walking over 15,000 steps a day, then eating massive amounts of Italian food at night. Somehow I managed to not gain any weight even though I was constantly feeling guilty about all the gorging! Venice, Italy
I was in Chicago and I was contacted by one of my random Internet fans. She was very nice in a non-Internet-creepy way and invited me up on a helicopter ride. So I said yes, and so I showed up at a little airport where the pilot was waiting. I asked him if we could take off the door, and he had no problem with that, so off we went! I had a mic and earphones on as we circled the city as the sun was setting. I then directed him over here towards the end the pier for one last shot before we flew back home. Chicago, Illinois
The Violent Volcano I thought this mountain and cloud formation was too perfect to ignore. Clouds always do strange things when they pass over mountains, but this one seemed particularly violent and unexpected. This is not actually a volcano. it's just a regular old mountain in the Andes that had a nice little volcanic shape. I skirted around it for a while (skirting is quite a trek at this radius), until the angle seemed about right... although I had to skirt fast before the clouds changed. I have always wanted to take a photo of a volcano that is erupting. I climbed up part of a volcano that was erupting in Costa Rica, and you could see the red rocks, but I got absolutely zero good shots. Oh well... some day!- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
