This is just one of those buildings you never get tired of seeing. I think it was built sometime around the time I was born. I don't remember if it was a controversial design at the time or not. Sometimes this stuff comes out and people really dislike the boldness of the lines. Yesterday's Sydney Opera House photo and today's photo of the Burj Al Arab in Dubai have a lot in common. They are both inspired by things-nautical. The opera house is based on waves and this is based on a huge sail. There's something else about this building that causes a lot of confusion with the scale of it.
