Ahhh, beautiful Kyoto! It’s one of my favorite cities in the world, so going back to re-master this one, seven years later, was still as much of a joy as the first time. It was also great to use better tools like Aurora HDR. to give it a better “look.” Before, I think I might have just used the sliders in Photomatix and not even done any touchup in Photoshop. I’ve also learned a lot more about color theory and this sort of thing in the time betwixt.
This city is a three dimensional Tetris that built strange-shaped block by strange-shaped block. And they all fit in as the lower levels disappear year after year. One of my favourite things about this photo is that you can't quite tell what city it is… it happens to be Tokyo. I crawled inside this little gypsy caravan and listened to ethereal music as we randomly moved around the desert of Burning Man. Music pulsed. New friends. Old friends. Small windows around the edges gave outward portal-glances to worlds and times that whizzed by, each one inviting a new pause to the story. The strange horizons would only stay a moment before the playa winds blew them into a new form. About thirty minutes later, the time machine dropped me off at another random place. I ducked my head back in through the window to take a photo to remember everything. As it rumbled away, I was thinking there was something very familiar about that woman... only later did it occur to me that we went to university together. I looked for her all over the desert for the rest of the week, but I never found her again. I guess that’s how those gypsies roll... Burning Man, Nevada
