Big Cities and Little 'uns
This is one of the most famous bridges where lovers go to secure a padlock as a symbol of their undying love. I've never done this and I don't know the actual ritual. But, I would assume that they would lock it and then throw the key into the Seine river below. That seems like it would be romantic. Anyway, apparently, the sheer mass of the locks turns out to be a bit of a hazard to the bridge. I never understood this, as I would think the bridge could easily handle the physics of that situation. Either way, officials come by on occasion to cut off the locks. But I wonder if anyone has ever gone down to the bottom of the river to see how many keys are down there on the bottom.
